The girl and the shore.

there was a shore. Or maybe there was a girl.

Somewhere lost in this world. In the silence of the quiet dark forest. With monsters lurking about like its their home.

Was it their home, or was it not. It was up to them.

One day the girl went to the forest. Walking down a path laid by dirt and stone. with trees looming on its every side for distances that were unseen.

The girl stopped by the shore. A shore of a lake. Or a river. with the water reflecting her own self back into her eyes.

she looked. and looked. and by the end of it. When she looked away. She realized. The things that they spoke about. The monster tales in the forest.

Wasn’t about a big bad monster, preying on innocent poor loners who venture into the forest.

but it was the shore itself. As it showed you the truth of who you were.

and the truth is.

you were a monster. Before your legs took forward into the water. Never emerging out of it.

I was a monster. Even when water replaced the air in my lungs.

Merrell Bunting: Well written, kind of quiet story, I enjoyed it. I am still a bit perplexed over whether this was a second chance mating story with choosing or completely a chosen mate story. If it is a chosen mate tale it leaves one a bit worried about a fated mate showing up. Either way it was a nice read.
