The Vendeleer Brothers Book 2: Serenity Hill

Detective Jordyn Hastings loathed overly happy people.

She scowled as she went down the street of a small town in the hills of northern California.

“Good afternoon there stranger!” a man with a large smile said with a wave.

Jordyn mumbled a reply.

Now where was that missing detective from their precinct?

Detective Warrick from their precinct had mysteriously disappeared a couple of weeks ago, and it was her job to find him. The last anyone had ever heard of him, he was heading up to a little community called Serenity Hill.

And Jordyn hated this place.

Every single person she had met so far had either given her a compliment, been really easy to and willing to work with her, or said good morning or good day. It was unreal. She found herself wishing someone would be rude to her.

The very helpful people of Serenity Hill had told her that Cameron Warrick could be found in a house up the hill, which seemed weird, because if he wasn’t in trouble, why wouldn’t he contact anyone?

She hoped he wouldn’t try to ask her out again.

Or on the other hand, maybe she did, so she could punch him in the face.

Someone in this stupid town needed to be rude.

Jordyn walked up to a little blue painted house with some pink and white azaleas in front. She felt sickened by how well cut and well kept up all the houses here were. She almost wanted to mess something up here just to mess with people. She knocked on the crisp, red door.

She was surprised to find the person she was looking for answer the door with a big smile on his face, wearing some kind of straw gardening hat and gardening gloves.

“Cameron?!” she exclaimed in disbelief.

“Jordyn!!” he said exuberantly, his blonde hair swept to the side like usual.

“What the freak Cameron?! Why haven’t you contacted anyone lately?! Everyone thinks you’re dead or something!” she demanded angrily.

“Well, I thought it was so nice here, that I decided to live here.” he explained. Jordyn gawked at him.

“What about your job?!”

“I’ve got a new one here. I’m the milkman.”

“Milkman?!” Jordyn seethed, her face turning red. “What is this? The fifties??”

“Now Jordyn, calm down now…”

Jordyn felt extremely put off. Detective Warrick was chill, but this was just ridiculous.

“Fine.” she scowled, turning on her heel to leave.

“Jordyn, don’t be a sourpuss…”

When the freak did he start saying things like sourpuss? Jordyn growled and stormed down the street.

Whatever.

Let him rot here and lose his job at the precinct.

She hated him anyway.

Good riddance.

She continued to walk down the street to her car, and as she was getting her keys out, she suddenly felt something off as the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. She looked around and noticed that there was suddenly no one around at the moment.

She was alone.

What the freak?

Subconsciously, Jordyn’s hand hovered over the gun in her holster, feeling like she was being watched.

Something quick moved in the corner of her eye, causing her to whirl around and draw her gun, her heart beating a bit faster. She froze when she felt something behind her, possibly breathing down her neck. Slowly, she turned around.

Jordyn gasped.
