Empty Life
Alec
Sometimes waking up I had always hoped that my life was a dream, but it never was it sadly was a reality. I thought our lives were all supposed to be fairytales, but not mine, mine was a nightmare. Most of the time I felt anger on the inside as if I was going to explode. Knowing in my mind that I was different didn’t make a life of an 18 yr old, whatever that means, any easier. I probably should mention that my education in life isn’t very good, I mean all that was taught was means of survival.
Hey my name’s Alec I am one of seven bear cubs, even though I knew in my heart that I was different somehow. The definition of being a bear in my family means survive, talk, and act like a bear those are some of my best qualities. Sometimes laying in bed at night I would feel this pain in my stomach as if a part of me was missing, a space that needed to be filled. At that moment when I came into realization that my parents were keeping some big secret from me, and somehow I was going to find out no matter what!
That night I was planning on asking my parents this question when I began to hear someone crying in the left side of the cave. As I tiptoed to find out what was wrong I saw my mom and dad hovered in the corner of the cave. I saw that mom had tears in her eyes, between sobs she began to speak “ What are we going to do, all the animals are against us because of this, I can’t lose a part of me because of them.”My father then answered “ You know that I love him but I can’t risk putting my family in danger-” “ He is our family,” my mom cut in with a loud voice. They stared at each other in silence for a few minutes “ We know what we need to do,” father answered with his head hanging low. I don’t know what they are planning to do but I wasn’t sticking around to find out. With a heavy heart I grabbed my most prized possession a music box that I had found a couple of days ago in the woods but I still couldn’t figure out how to turn it on. Tears filled my eyes as I took a step out of my cave and then sprinted into the woods, what if I never see them again? I’ll miss all of the special moments we had together but I need to do this, I need to find out who I really am. Then suddenly I quickly stopped in my tracks and nearly fell forward in doing so, Where in the world am I going? I brushed my finger against the bottom of the music box and suddenly came across a little turny thing, I pulled at it and nothing happened then I spun it around and the music box opened playing a peaceful, charming song. While the music played I felt as if someone was guiding me in the right direction, a comfort soon swept over me and I continued on the right path.
I walked all through the day and all through the night, famished from only eating leaves and tree nuts that fell on the floor ( bear habit) for the past two days. Oh how I miss the juicy fruit that I had left back home in saying that my stomach growled out loud just to make sure that I could hear it. Then I found something lying on the ground and it looked delicious, but when I tried it, it did not taste as good.
Night crept upon me as quick as a stealthy snake trying to catch its prey. When I had finally laid down to rest I thought of the expressions on my parents faces when they had found out that one of their cubs was missing, probably they didn’t even notice that I was gone they were probably trying to get rid of me anyway. I wish that it didn't have to be this way but all this time I was living a life that was not mine to live. It was just time I guess to follow my destiny and to find out where I came from.
