chapter 1
Spartan Vengeance
I half opened my eyes but I had to put my hands in front of my face to block the sun. With blurry sight I try to see what is around me. It looks like I am in the middle of nowhere. I feel dizzy and very weak and I strangle to get up on my feet. I look around and there is nobody here but me. I can’t remember where I was before I passed out. I must pull myself together and find a way out of here. It won’t be so easy in my condition and in an unwelcomed place like this. I have this weird sense like something evil is somewhere near. It is probably just me and the fear I fell due to the unknown. Unknown yes, but yet there is something familiar with this place. It seems like I have seen it or been here before. I think it was in a movie or something. I can’t tell for sure.
I stand near a huge cliff over the sea across a long seaside. I can see far on the horizon and there is no land or even a small island out there. The atmosphere is so clear that I can see far for several miles. Sea and nothing but sea as far as the eye can see. Thinking of looking straight down makes you feel nauseous. The high is more than fifty meters deep down from up here. The raging waters hitting angry wave after wave on the hard solid rock day after day, year after year, for centuries. Trying to make their way through but the wall of pointed, sharpened, more and more after each hit, rocky blades, modified stronger. If you fall, you will probably die instantly from the big high dive. If you are unlucky and strong enough to survive that fall, the combination of water and land will work together as a team against your odds of survival. Water will through you on the rocks and them, back in to water. They will hit you and won’t stop even when you are long dead.
Up here the scenery is different but not better. The sun stands still above my head, trying to penetrate my whole body with gusty of burning sun rays. The heat I fell is indescribable. Some traveling drops of the splashing waters that the wind brings on my face let a cooling moment happen before it is vanquished in hot air. The dangerous sea might look as an oasis capable of offering you some coolness and a way out of this burning hell’s suffering. It turns your mind switch off, challenging your dare and courage to take a nice lethal high dive, in certain death. You have to be really focused not to get tricked and confused. Not to see this abyss depth as a small step to your salvation.
Seabirds are all over the sky, it seems like sun don’t bother them at all, even if they are closer to its flaming rays, as I think that they are flying too high and not near the surface of the sea as seabirds normally do. The sound of their talking arrives to my ears clear enough and it seems more that they are singing than just communicating. I think I can even hear some drums supporting their vocals with a nice, heavy and steady beat, but in a quite faster tempo than the seagulls hit their wings.
I suppose that must be the side effect of high temperature and lack of water and the begging of a heat stroke. I have to find some shade to cover as soon as possible if I want to have even one chance surviving from these circumstances.
I turn around and look behind me and I see an enormous rocky and steep mountain. It is bold at its first meters. Then some bushes after eight to twelve meter high and then it must be another twenty until the first tree. I can’t see an easy way up. In fact I see not a hard one. I try to climb but there is nothing to grab your weight up, no room to place your feet and make a starting push. And I am a pretty strong guy, even in that state, that I should be able to climb. Rocks carved like blades, telling you that is not the right way to go in any occasion. There is definitely no way up.
Desponded I know that I have to walk this abnormal road, that is wide like two cars or a bit more fitting in, and I am not sure that i would go in a car in a road like this. Probably no car can drive here without fall from that cliff or get smashed by falling rocks of that mountain. I can see the road full of fallen rocks of every shape and size. I am on a curvy part of that road so I see no further than five or more meters away when I turn my head on the right or left direction. I have no idea where to go.
