Chapter 1

Start writing here…Mary Mcnash, the name stears up at me from the report next to the name is a photo of a young girl, seven years old, she is holding onto an old brown teddy bear thats missing an eye and an ear like it’s the most valuable thing in the world, her smile is bright but her eyes are filled with sorrow. I have gone over her report five times and even with my photographic memory her case makes no sense at all, yesterday when Gabble got back he actually had tears in his eyes. The Great Gabble came back from Miss Mcnash with tears in his eyes, and he was not the first ether, his predecessor came back after one night with Miss Mcnash and quit his job. It makes no sense, all children are afraid of the monsters under their bed but not Mary Mcnash, she sends the monsters running. This Morning i had a meeting with colonel, a living shadow and he flat out refused to go near that girls room. And everyone else i approached refused too, that leaves only me.

The clock striked eight and so I teleport to Miss Mcnashs’ room just as her mother kisses her goodnight. I crawl under her bed and waight, the room is like any other seven year old girls room, its pink, the walls have pictures of horses and fairies on them, there is a doll house and stuffed animals. Her mom leans over and switches off the lamp, before the light goes out a see a bruise on her cheek, clumsy humans. The door clicks shut and I send a cold wind to the bed, but instead of smelling the usual confusion and horror Mary smells relieved “I hope you are better than the others” she says into the darkness, is it possible she’s talking to me? Heavy footsteps thud up the hall and closer to the room. Mary jumps off her bad and climes under it, lying next to me “Move over.” she hisses “He’s coming.” the horror I expected my wind to bring her hits me now along with the smell of alcohol and sweat. The door crashes open and a large man appears at the threshold, next to me mairy closes her eyes and shudders. The figure swaighs, then stumbles towards the bed “Come out little brat.” A male voice spits.

In an instant the unexplainable is explained, Mary is not scared of my monsters because she has monsters of her own. The man bends down to look under the bed, he almost falls over but uses the bed for balance, I shift my form so i’m hiding Mary from view, the man gets up and walks around the room, he starts smashing toys and trashing the cupboards. “Little coward.” he mutters, the small girl next to me goes still and listens to the sound of her possessions being damaged. It takes me about a second to make up my mind, I slide out from under the bed and full the room with my darkness, the man trips and falls. I pull my shadows inwords forming a cloaked figure, the man whimpers and curls himself into a ball on the floor. Mary peeks out from under her bed her eyes wide. She watches as I reach out to touch the man, the second my shadows touch him he screams, being a shadow demon I have the ability to cause physical pain and as a grater demon I have the authority to kill, but I no longer work for Heresy, so I speak to the man in a voice of nightmares “You will remember me “ I say “You will be haunted by what happend here this night for eternity.” I turn to Mary and see her looking between the man and me not knowing what to do. “Take me with you.” she whispers, and without a second thought I scoop her up into my arms, fetch the old teddy bear and teleport to my estate.
