Chapter 1

The first day of my sophomore year was tomorrow and I was dreading it.

A few weeks ago I couldnโ€™t wait for this day to come. Jason had finally asked me out. He had come through like a hurricane, he was kind and sweet. He always listened to the things I had to say.

He had never even held my hand or ever tried to kiss me. He respected me, and I loved that about him.

But of course happy endings are nothing but fairy tales. It only took him five months to throw all we had away. It was at a party four weeks ago, he decided at the last minute to go. I had fallen asleep that night thinking he was at home, since thatโ€™s where he said he would be.

The next morning I woke to message after message with pictures of him kissing Lexi. I must have stared at the pictures forever, so shocked to even move. How could he do this to me? Not only did he cheat but he did it in public with no regard to how that would make me feel. Everyone knew, I felt stupid, how could I think that he had ever even cared about me.

I had message after message from Jason, but I deleted them without even reading them. There was no point it was over no matter what he had to say. I sent one text back, โ€œItโ€™s over, please delete my number from your phone. There is no excuse that you can tell me that will make this better, so please donโ€™t waste my time and yours. Any text you send will be in vain, everything you send I โ€™m deleting without reading. Itโ€™s too bad you were not who I thought you were. I hope it was worth it!โ€

I closed my eyes thinking that tomorrow was going to be crazy. I had not spoken to Jason since I sent that text, despite all the noise his messages and phone calls were making I continued to ignore him. Tomorrow would be here soon enough, and I would finally have to face the boy that broke my heart.

I woke up feeling like a train had hit me, I was tired, and my anxiety was working overtime. I took a breath to help calm myself, I could do this. All I had to do was not crack, the less affected I looked the easier it would be to get through this.

I dressed in a pair of black skinny jeans paired with a purple tank. I pulled my hair into a high pony tail added some eyeliner and a bit of lip gloss. I grabbed my back pack and hurried down the stairs. I knew mom would throw a fit if I didnโ€™t at least eat a muffin, so I made a quick detour through the kitchen. I grabbed the keys to the beautiful blue navigator my parents had given me for my 16th birthday and headed out the door.

Pulling into the parking lot was making my heart beat fast and my making my mind run a hundred miles an hour. I parked in a spot at the back of the lot, grabbed my bag and started walking towards the school. Raven was waiting for me close to the front steps. She had been my best friend since first grade. Trevor walked over to us and pulled me into a hug. He was Ravenโ€™s older brother he was 18 and a senior this year. He was always nice to me, he always looked out for me.

โ€œCheer up princess, โ€ he said finally letting me go. I looked up into his ocean blue eyes and for the first time I saw what all the girls saw in him. He was beautiful, his gallant nature only made him more appealing. He was the captain of the football team and Jason was co-captain, I knew that Trevor wanted nothing more than to knock his teeth out. Despite them being friends since forever.

What the heck was my problem? I moved as far from him as I could get without looking crazy. When I finally had the nerve to look up he was staring at me.

โ€œSky, everything is going to be fine. That jerk better hope I donโ€™t beat his cheating ass. Youโ€™re not alone, I plan on keeping that loser as far from you as possible.โ€ Raven said grabbing my hand and pulling me behind her.

I knew Trevor was right behind us, and somehow that made me feel better. Walking up the stairs to the school seemed like it took forever. Everyone was staring at me, they all knew what Jason had done. I was almost to the door when Lexi blocked our way.

โ€œI told you that Jason was mine, but since you didnโ€™t believe me I had to prove it to you.โ€ She said smirking.

Before I could move or react Raven had slammed her into the front door. โ€œBack off, cause we both know I can take you. Now move, before I make you.โ€ She glared at her.

Lexi moved to the side and Raven grinned.

โ€œThatโ€™s what I thought.โ€ She laughed pulling me behind her up the stairs.

I absolutely loved this chick, she was full of fire, she was brave and confident. I loved all those things about her. Even more so because I was the total opposite of her. It took a lot to make me angry, I hated conflict. It wasnโ€™t that I could not defend myself, I had a black belt in karate. I just didnโ€™t want to hurt anyone if I could avoid it.

Raven and Trevor walked with me to my locker, I froze when I saw Jason. Why did he have to be so handsome? He had light brown hair with the most beautiful hazel eyes I had ever seen. He was over 6 feet and in excellent shape. Raven stood in front of me blocking his view of me. โ€œPlease Sky, just listen to what I have to say. Five minutes is all Iโ€™m asking for.โ€ He said pleading with me.

โ€œI have nothing to say to you Jason, please respect the fact that itโ€™s over.โ€

โ€œSky, please donโ€™t do this.โ€ Jason said trying to get around Raven. That was all it took to set Trevor off, he closed the distance between him and Jason stopping right in front of him. Trevor was a little taller than Jason.

โ€œI donโ€™t want to have to make you eat your teeth, leave Sky alone. โ€ He said putting his finger in Jasonโ€™s face.

โ€œIโ€™m not scared of you Trevor, Iโ€™m not going to let you, or anyone keep me from talking to sky. I love her, I have always loved her. You of all people know that.โ€ He said facing off with Trevor.

โ€œIโ€™m not giving up sky, Iโ€™m going to make you talk to me and hear what I have to say. I gave you weeks to listen to me, I texted, I called, and you refused to hear me out. Iโ€™m done, I refuse to lose you. You mean way too much to me to just let you go.โ€ He said walking away.

I knew that the only way to get him to leave me alone was to leave. My parents had been trying to convince me to go and stay with my grandma, her health was declining it would do her some good to have some company. Besides who wouldnโ€™t love to live on the beach?

Raven was not going to be too happy, but it wouldnโ€™t be forever just the year it would take for Jason to graduate and go off to college.

I made my way around school like a Zombie, I needed this day to be over. Jason had hurt me enough already, I refused to listen to his lies.

I hated that I was running away, but I saw no other way. I felt my chest tighten and my breathing became shallower. I just had to make it five more minutes, soon Jason would just be a memory and I couldnโ€™t wait.

After talking to my parents I text Raven to let her know that I was coming by her house. When I pulled up she was waiting outside for me. We walked over to her porch swing and sat down. My eyes started to tear up thinking about how much I was going to miss her. With a heavy heart I told her what I was about to do.

โ€œAre you crazy? You canโ€™t just leave Sky, what Am I supposed to do without my bestie?โ€ She said almost in tears.

We had never been apart more than a couple of days. So I knew we were both going to have a hard time with it.

โ€œI canโ€™t handle being here right now Raven, you know Jason has no plans to leave me alone. I just want to forget him. It hurts to much. I loved him.โ€ I said tears filling my eyes.

โ€œI know you did.โ€ Raven said pulling me into a hug.

โ€œThis is your first real heartbreak, itโ€™s understandable to feel how you do.โ€ She said always knowing the right thing to say.

โ€œWhen do you leave?โ€ She asked.

โ€œIn two days. My parents already withdrew me from school so that I have time to pack.โ€ I said as Trevor pulled up.

โ€œI โ€™ll be back the summer before Junior year, Iโ€™ll make sure you get to visit whenever you want. Plus we got Skype and face time, for whenever you miss this face of mineโ€ I laughed.

โ€œWhat the heck did I miss?โ€ Trevor asked looking between the two of us curiously.

โ€œSky is moving. Sheโ€™s going to stay with her grandma for her sophomore year.โ€ Raven said sniffling.

โ€œIโ€™ll be back before you know it.โ€ I said knowing it wasnโ€™t true.

โ€œI better go.โ€ I said hugging Raven tightly.

Trevor looked at me and held my gaze, โ€œIโ€™ll walk you to your car.โ€ He said taking my hand and lacing his fingers with mine.

This was the most Trevor had ever touched me when I wasnโ€™t crying, and he was trying to console me. H

Raven let him lead me away without protest. She waved one last time before she went inside.

When we got to my car I pulled my hand from Trevorโ€™s still taken aback by his behavior. He just kept staring at me like he had so much he wanted to say but didnโ€™t know how to say it.

I was about to get in the car when he pulled me to him. Making me gasp in surprise. He held me so close to his body that I could feel his heart thumping in his chest. He titled my head up so that I was looking up at him. โ€œIโ€™m going to miss you sky,โ€ he said running his fingers down the side of my face.

What was happening?

โ€œIโ€™m sure you will hardly give me a thought.โ€ I said moving away from him.

โ€œYouโ€™re a lot harder to forget than you think.โ€ He said confusing me even more.

โ€œAre you drunk?โ€ I asked suspiciously.

โ€œItโ€™s the middle of the week. Why is the world would you think Iโ€™m drunk?โ€ He asked.

โ€œYour acting weird.โ€ I said our eyes meeting.

He grinned but said nothing. He just stood there staring at me intently.

โ€œGo take care of what you need to. When you get back we have a talk pending.โ€ He said.

โ€œThatโ€™s a long time to wait. Do you know how crazy Iโ€™m going to go wondering about it? Iโ€™m nosey you canโ€™t do this to me.โ€ I said with a frown.

He laughed and pulled me to him again.

โ€œWhat I have to say youโ€™re not ready to hear yet. But Iโ€™m a very patient guy. I can wait.โ€ He said opening the door to the navigator.

He lingered for a few seconds before he turned and walked away.
