The Ugly Bracelet
Once there was a little boy only two years old and a young girl only 13.
This little boy was shy. Oh so so shy when he first met the young girl. But the young girl was known for making friends with little kids. For her, it as so much easier than making friends with people her age.
Soon enough the little boy and the young girl grew close and were inseparable. She became a mother hen when it came to the little boy. Since the two lived in the same house, they often would fall asleep cuddling. The little boy would cry every time the young girl had to leave. And the young girl loved the little boy more then she could ever love anyone else.
After about a year, the young girl moved away from the little boy. The little boy, only three years old, missed the young girl, only 14 years old. Every chance he got to see her he would run up and jump into the waiting arms of the young girl.
Sometimes, the little boy would go and visit the young girls home and stay the night. As they always had, they shared the same bed and cuddled all night.
Both the little boy and the young girl were so so happy when the young girl moved back into the same house as the little boy. But this happiness didn’t last. The young girl’s life hit a rough patch and soon after she again moved away.
The young girl’s puppy had died. And she was miserable. Still, she carried on. The little boy was now four and she was 15. The little boy was again saddened by the fact that she had to move away again and this time he couldn’t come and spend the night.
Instead, he’d wait to get to see the young girl and run and jump into the young girl’s arms and would scarcely leave them until he was sidetracked by something else or one or the other had to leave.
Every morning that they had school, they would meet each other at their grandmother’s house. They would hug and the young girl would give the little boy a kiss on the cheek. One day after school, at their grandmother's house, the little boy brought the young girl a bracelet.
He had made it in school. It had wood beads, plastic beads, and was made from pipe cleaners. To most, it was a childish and ugly thing. But to the young girl was worth more than a million tons of gold and more beautiful than the Antelope Canyon.
The little boy has had heart problems since he was born and every now and then he would have a major difficulty. This fact, the realization that the little boy might die, could leave this world and leave her, made the bracelet all that more important.
At the young girl’s school, she heard whisperings of how the bracelet she wore - the little boy's bracelet- was ugly. She ignored them, decided that if they couldn't have the guts to walk up and ask about it themselves, they weren't worth giving them the satisfaction of being bothered by it.
She has cherished that bracelet from the day she got it. And she will continue to cherish it to the day she dies. Why?
Because a little boy, only four years old, an oh so shy little boy and a young girl, only 15, loved each other more than anything in the world.
