1 - Ordinary

Ryan's day of complete normal teenage interactions, starts with the slamming of the traditional alarm clock.

Beep, beep, bee- SLAM!
It would be fair to say that the alarm clock is in an alarming condition from the force he used to silence it. Tucking his head under the covers to avoid the sunlight, he rolled himself into a burrito still too tired to wake up and face the world.
Yet the soft knocking of his mother at his door and her constant calling of his name in question, caused him to unroll out of the perfect warmth of his burrito and find himself sprawled across the cool wooden floor.

"Coming!" He called out, before groaning at the rough wake up call.

He had school today, like any other day of the week.

Slowly he rose from the floor, although not as graceful as he would like to be. He almost fell from his lack of balance three times. Walking akin to a zombie, he grudgingly found a shirt and dark wash jeans he had only worn once before.

Putting the clothes on, he almost tripped again at the attempt of putting his socks on standing up. Slipping his shoes on in record time, he brushed his teeth before sliding down the stairway rail.

His book bag swung over his shoulder, only to slam with the force of gravity knocking the breath from his chest.

What did I put in there?

He shook his head of the thoughts, and instead focused on his time- or lack of it. Oh, Crap.

Ryan sprinted the rest of the way to the door, grabbing the toast his mother held out for him on the way. Yelling his thanks on the way out the door.

He could imagine the rubber on the soles of his shoes being red hot, from how fast he ran. Outside of the school gate, he swerved to a stop- gasping for air.

His hands rested on his knees while his back pack slapped his back one last time, making him desperate for air once again.

With the flash of his watch, he was up and running once again. The time on his watch giving him only two minutes before the first bell. He slipped past the teacher glaring down on him, just as the front door closed.

He fast walked to his class. He was once giving a severe scolding from a grey haired woman, it took so long and all he could care to remember was that it was entirely boring (and that he was late to his first block by fifteen minutes, the teacher making him get a late pass missing more of the class). What about?

Running in the halls- so now he was a proper adult-in-the-making walking 'briskly' or as his mom liked to call it; walking like a New Yorker.

The one thing about walking briskly, Ryan was not a master at it. He often ended up- speak of the devil and he shall appear.

His foot clipped the other and it only took a second for the tiled floor to seem closer then it appeared.

Ow. His body was getting sore from the constant contact with the floor.

One glance at the time left and he was up, this time was no more graceful then the first, other late teens walked around him with a wide berth.

He stood in the doorway to his homeroom, only as the bell rang right above him.

Ryan's shoulders sagged in relief, all since of urgency gone as he walked lazily to his seat. The teacher's words fell on deaf ears as he rested his sweaty face on the cool desk.

It was only when Ryan felt someone wack him on the back of the head that he realized he feel asleep for the five minutes he had homeroom.

Rubbing the back of his head, he blinked to adjust his eyes to the light of the room as he turned to face his attacker.

"Mornin' sleeping beauty," His friend Abby spoke with a sarcastic drawl.

"Morning." He spoke as if he did not hear her sarcasm, retrieving his back pack from the floor beside his desk.

"Late again, I see." She spoke with a knowing tone as they walked to their first block- Physics with Mrs. Pierce.

His body woke at the comment, ready to defend himself.

"Was not," He cringed as his voice sounded more of a whine then his great line of defense.

She gave him a knowing look before rolling her eyes, "Sure you weren't."

He was ready to further defend his claim, taking a breath before calling his make-believe army- yet she beat him to speaking, "So did you finish the worksheet?"

He froze in the middle of the hall. Worksheet? We had homework?

He turned to her, trying to laugh it off, which turned out to be an awkward chuckle ending with him rubbing the back of his head at another wack from her arm.

"You didn't do it, did you?" Her green eyes sent a piercing glare at him over the rim of her wire glasses.

He tried to play it off, his palms already sweaty in the prospect of facing her wraith, "You mean the worksheet due tomorrow right?"

Her glare only hardened in response before it bloomed into a dazzling smile. Ryan usually loves her smile, it brightens her eyes- but this one, gave him chills.

He could not keep the unending roll of dread from dropping down his spine. He gulped nervously as he followed her into the science lab her tossed remark increasing his reaction tenfold.

No wonder why she was smiling- she probably had plans to record his doom.

"Wait until Mrs. Pierce learns it isn't finished."
