Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, far away and long ago, a princess living in a castle. King's only child who became widower too early, she would ascend the throne during her 17th birthday. She lived in a luxurious castle, surrounded with precious and magnificent dresses and fineries.

Nevertheless, she did not want to. She wanted to be like all the other girls, to do everythings they can. To romp out with neighbours sons, to enjoy herself with other girls, to help her parents, and obviously in few years, to become a stay-at-home mother taking care of her husband and children. Yes, weirdly, that were the only things wanted by the princess. Cassandra, her governess, was repeating to her the chance she had to got royal blood and to be able to choose her husband herself, by tradition.

However, the young heiress was not of this opinion. She did not see the advantages, but at sixteen years old, can we really understand the advantages of a situation ? Of course, nobody knew her existence, excepted her governess and five servants, chosen along the most faithful. Obviously, the princess life was in danger, all the other heirs wanted to take her place, not matter how. The day of her 17th birthday arrived. Her father, the King, decided to give a huge reception, just before his daughter's crowning, to present her to the kingdom people. This day will stay remembered for ever.

It was about 19 o'clock, the cream of the crop were going to arrive. The young lady was here, hidden behind red huge curtains, impatient to see finally her people. She waited 10 minutes before hearing the first discussions dukes, countesses, barons, etc... The voices sound increased until become a deafening hubbub. Eventually, she heard her father calm them and present her. In spite of her dreamed life, what she saw excited her. She was happy, and said to herself that being a princess was not that bad. Curtains were going to get up.

Suddenly, she heard a friction behind her. She turned around. She had a horrendous sight when she saw what was coming. A tall man was approaching slowly with an axe in the hand. Fear in her stomach, she could not move or scream anymore. Her legs become like cotton wool, her heartbeat speeded up and she sweated profusely. The man, as the Death, came inexorably toward his prey. She closed her eyes, prayed for any help.

Then, she felt the steel bit her body. She screamed so painfully. She stuck her hands on her opened stomach, trying to stop this river of blood. She collapsed. Through the eyes blurred by tears, she saw the curtains get up, the crowd started to scream and panic gained it. She realized nothing, neither his father running up to her, nor the guards neutralize her aggressor.

The only thing she knew was that she would die, without having lived the life, without having walked in a paved street, without having lied on the wet grass of the morning dew. Each second, her breath become more and more weak. Her blood fled from her and her thoughts did not become more than pain. Than, the pain went away, the blood stopped pouring. She did not hear her father's screams or see his tears anymore. " I die" were the last thoughts of the young heiress, dying in the imploring arms of a broken father.

So died the Princess, killed by the Duke of Ironalke servant, King's brother and closer heir. The servant killed himself in jail to not denounce his master. The King, undone by woe, died the following night. It was then the Duke of Ironalke who ascended the throne. Strangely, he took as his wife, Cassandra, governess of the regretted princess.

Even today, nobody knows the princess name, with a tragic fate.

The End.
