She's Leaving Home
Dear Mother and Father,
I'm sorry. I am truly sorry, but it is better this way. I've been only a burden to you both but no more. Don't worry about me, I won't be your problem anymore. Thank you for suffering for so long because of me. You're free now.
Love, your great burden
Goodbye
Stray tears rolled down my cheeks. I wanted to say more, so much more, but the words were too difficult to write. They were too painful to write. Each word I wrote was a needle in my heart.
It was already five in the morning. Time to go. Wiping away the tears, I slid the small note under my parent's door. My body stopped at that moment and I just stood there staring at the wooden door separating me from my dear parents.
I remember the numerous times I stared at that same door over the years. How it brought me a feeling of comfort and safety as I opened that door. Every time I felt scared or uneasy all I had to do is open this door and the feeling would vanish.
Not today though. Today this door only brought me a sense of dread and remorse for what I was about to do.
I eventually pried myself away from the door and tiptoed my way to my room, picking up the duffle bag laying on my bed. Again, my body stopped.
Looking around my room was like looking at the hundreds of things that happened in this room. The times my dad and I played hide and seek in this room. How he always hid under my bed with his feet poking out. Memories of my mom playing dress up with me and how, when I got older, to apply makeup. And then there were the times at night when mom and dad sang to me, telling me how much they loved me.
What a cruel joke...
They didn't love me, they acted like they did but they never truly did. In truth, they hated me. They hated how I wasted their time and money. I was a mistake and they would be so much happier without me.
With that, my mind was clear. I descended the stairs and reached the back door. I glance around my childhood home once more as more memories rushed me.
With trembling hands, I open the back door and the refreshing feeling of freedom washes over me, cleansing my body and mind.
Outside was cold yet comforting, the birds sang songs of adventures and the flowers created a path to which I followed.
I was leaving home.
After this, I can't look back.
It's better this way...
or I hope it is
