Chapter 1

Sebastian POV

I scanned the little donut shop that the man I call my best friend recommended.

“Told you man. Warm and cozy. Just like grandma’s house.” Liam joked.

I looked ahead to the short line at the counter. Making my way to the line, I saw an old couple ordering. Behind them was a woman with a little girl.

After a while, the couple and the woman ordered and left but the little girl didn’t. She tried reaching the counter but she soon huffed in frustration and grabbed a near by chair. She dragged it over to the counter.

“Can I get a raspberry filled powdered donut, please? ” the girl asked politely.

I looked around and saw that no one was paying attention to the little girl who was ordering by herself.

After a few minutes she paid and left. I looked at Liam and signaled that I was leaving and followed her out. After a few seconds I cought up to the little girl.

Moving to kneel in front of her, “Hey where’s you’re parents?”

“Mommy’s at work.” She said. “I’m Storm. Who are you?”

“Sebastian. But you can call me Bash. If your mom’s at work, where’s your dad?” I asked Storm. Why would her father let her wander around buying donuts?

“I don’t have a daddy. Anyway I gotta get back before Mommy notices I’m gone.” That explains it.

Before she could run off, I stopped her. “Why don’t I go with you, huh?”

“Sure!”

River’s POV

“Storm?!” I called, walking around the little book store bakery. I’d been looking around for a while now.

It was fairly small but had plenty of places to hide. After thoroughly checking the front of the shop I made my way to the back. Before I could start looking around though I heard the bell chime indicating a customer had come in.

Walking back out I saw a tall, black-haired handsome man walk in. Storm was holding his hand. Completely ignoring the giant of a man I ran over to Storm.

“Oh baby! I thought I’d lost you! Where’d you disappear off to?”

Instead of answering she handed me a bag from my favorite place to get donuts from. Looking inside I found my favorite raspberry filled powdered donut. That place was a bit expensive so I only went once in a blue moon.

“Baby, where’d you get the money for this? ”

“From your wallet.” she said adorably, clasping her hands together behind her back and twisting her upper half left and right adding to the cuteness. “Logan said you’re really stressed and frustrated and that your favorite donut helps lots and lots.” The way she said ‘frustrated’ came out more as ‘frus- wasted’.

“Well Logan is right. But don’t go running off again alright baby?”

Logan was the owner’s son. He was extremely perceptive and has been known to point out that your stressed and always recommended some sort of sweet. He was a few months older than Storm was and they always played together. Much to the boy’s mothers dismay. While his father was kind, his mother was a complete bitch.

“Yes Mommy. Oh! Meet Bash! He walked me back.” She grabbed his left hand pulled him forward.

Standing again, I offered my hand and he took it. “I’m River Green. Thank you so much for bringing my baby back.”

"Sebastian. And its no problem.”

“Can I get you anything? Since you’re here anyways.”

“Nah. I’m good. I have to get back to work.”

“Alright. Bye. And thanks again.”

He turned and walked out away, not bothering to respond.

I turned back to Storm, “Don’t you ever, ever scare mommy like that again okay?”

She nodded and ran off to, I assume, play with Logan.

Sighing, I went back to work for the remaining few hours I had left over at this job before I had to go to the restaurant.
