Chapter I
Chapter I
“When you can’t find the sunshine, be the sunshine.”
The bar reeked of cheap perfume and cigarettes. Broken glass and sawdust littered the wooden floors. Sapphire walled up to the counter eyeing the tall burly barista currently shaking up a concoction of some sort. Serving the drink to a woman with red fiery hair that looked to be in her late twenties he quickly winked before turning to Sapphire.
“Got an ID, darlin?” The barista drawls out in a thick southern accent. Leaning forward placing his elbows on the counter in front of him, before raising an eyebrow at her young appearance.“Oh yeah, here.” Handing the barista her fake ID all she could hope was that it was realistic enough to get her some vodka shots. Raising his eyebrows the barista hands her back the plastic card before turning to her.
“What can I get ya?” The barista asks while cleaning out a few glasses.“Four vodka shots.” Sapphire said quickly fishing out a worn twenty dollar bill as the barista nodded.“Coming right up.” He said before grabbing four clean shot glasses and pouring the vodka shots.
Waking up in the comfort of her purple polka dot sheets she remembered that it was my first day of college. To say she was nervous was understatement. Sapphire scanned the floor for an outfit in the arrays of clothes that resided on the hardwood floors. She was a fashionable person or at least according to her best friend Piper she was. Once in fifth grade she won the ‘Best Dressed’ award. Though it didn’t mean much because every kid received an award. Even the class bully, Alex got an award. The ‘Kindness’ award. Totally misleading to the parents.
Bending down Sapphire brought a mustard yellow blouse up to her nose and sniffed. Quickly retracting the piece of fabric from her nose she coughed. “Those clothes are out of the question.” She choked out with a little difficulty before steping over the piles of clothes and to her small armoire closet in the corner of the room.
Searching through the variety of colors she caught a glimpse of a mint colored dress. Pulling it off the hanger Sapphire ran her slender fingers through the silky smooth texture before removing the hanger and pulling the dress on. It was a beautiful short sleeve shift dress with a keyhole on the chest. The dress was mid thigh and hugged her waist, flowing gently down her thigh. After brushing her raven hair into a ponytail Sapphire quickly put on a pair of white converse before walking down the old screeching stairs.
“Are you sure you have everything you need for your first day of Yale?” Sapphire’s dad was a very paranoid and worrisome person. “Yes. I have everything I need and if I remember correctly you are not the one going to college.” Sapphire replied quickly looking at her white leather watch. Seeing as it was twenty before eight, the time that her first class started she decided to head out. “Oh would you look at that its time to leave. See you this afternoon.” Sapphire said quickly before shuffling out the door not giving her dad time reply.
