Chapter 1: It is Well
It was Saturday morning as a little boy by the age of twelve stirred awake from his slumber. He tuned in to his local AM radio station and listened in on the forecast for that day.
"Good morning listeners! Today is Saturday morning with a high of ninety degrees and a low of seventy. We have received reports of high winds in the area so be careful since those winds are as humid and dry. As we go..." The voice of the forecaster fell low as the boy wandered about his cabin. The cabin is fairly small but it was good enough for him. Small bedroom, no tv, only a window, sight of the trees, and the small red and black radio.
He sighed looking at the clear blue sky and smiled knowing that his day would be complete. His life in the wilderness was peaceful and quiet since he loved to do art and writing.
"The skies...the skies...the way it's clear. Maybe I should do a painting today. The story will come later. Ever since that dream I had...it made me think more about doing more paintings." The spirit in this boy had signed with every painting that he made. From the skies alone to his whole cabin, his paintings showed spirit in his work. After a few minutes, he gathered his supplies and headed outside and painted the sun, the animals, then the landscape. The sun, however, started to change color from its yellow brightness to he orange sunset. He didn't know what this had meant so he left it behind for now.
The boy went inside and left the painting to dry and went back to his radio. "Let's see..channel 1530 AM should be on here.." Just as he was about to change the station, the forecaster had come on again.
"Sorry for the interruption but we have been told that everyone needs to be evacuated from the area. I don't know why and we weren't given any information about this but everyone in the area must evacuate immediately!" The station cut to static. "Huh...strange."
He tried every other station but they were all static. He quickly ran over to the window and saw the sky change color.
"What? No..this has to be a dream right? This seriously can't be happening right now...not right now.." By the time he turned around, there were several times of static beeps. "Oh...this is happening..."
The radio spoke but the voice was different. "The Forest Administration had issued a mandatory evacuation for anyone within fifty miles of the State forest. A fire has been spreading rapidly and no emergency services can be reached to anyone in this mile radius. Evacuate now!" Then...static was on the station again.
"Where's my map!? Where's my map!? Forget it. I don't have time." The boy rustled through his drawers and found a flashlight and some batteries. "Time to see through the darkness...may I have the speed of the Lord..."
The darkness grew and grew and the time became shorter and more shorter. The boy ran through his door and saw that he knew he had to leave everything behind. His dreams..crushed. The flashlight turned on and the darkness took over. The battle has now begun over light and the dark. "Save me..."
