Chapter 0:1

Meet her- Danielle Paulez

Thick, grey clouds of smoke caused my lungs to burn as I struggled to inhale the iron-stained air around me.

The red-hot blazing fire from the foliage of a section from the huge mass of majestic pine trees surrounding the clearing where I was kept it warm, as I sat in a pool of my parents' cold blood.

I was surrounded by theirs and the lifeless bodies of others and I couldn't help but feel guilty.

"Danielle, run. Run!" My mother screamed while pushing me away from her. I had followed her instructions, the only time I ever did and she... they were taken away from me.

A mixture of blood and tears streamed down my face unto my mother's own as I held tightly her head in my lap. As if someone could take her away again, but there was no use, she was already gone.

I turned away from my mother— my heart beating furiously in my in my chest— and started to run as fast as my little five year old legs could carry me. My life had depended on it... and so did the future of the entire pack, but I wasn't ready for a future without my parents.

I couldn't let their deaths go in vain. I was the only person who could carry on the bloodline.

"I promise you, I will not fail you. Never." I whispered to their cold dead bodies.

"Danielle!" My grandmother called as she came running towards me from the trees, "we have to go now."

-Years later-

It was almost always a fight for power, between my wolf and I and right now she is currently scratching to get out.

I'm sure that my eyes were flickering between my usual brown and her blood red.

"Control, Danielle, is the most powerful weapon that you can have in battle. Always have the upper hand, don't be blinded by rage or any other emotion."

I closed my eyes, focusing on forcing my wolf down, as I listened keenly to my grandmother's words. But then a sharp pain reverberated through my shoulder and the control that I already had so little of, slipped away from me.

Skin turned fur and in seconds I stood, in front of my grandmother, on all fours.

My grandmother sighed then commanded, "shift," and my wolf reluctantly obeyed. We were Alphas and found it quite necessary to challenge anyone, always wanting to dominate everything.

My grandmother is also an alpha, a wise and old yet strong one. Her command would have had less effect on me as I got older, but as long as she was in charge of the pack I would still feel the need to obey.

The moment I shifted back fully my grandmother said, "you need to practice your exercises, without practice you will never master control. We cannot afford to make the same mistake twice, you must be-"

"I know. I know abuela, I promised. I will not fail, I cannot fail them. I certainly will not allow it." I stopped her before she could start giving me vivid mental images about that day.

"Here, put this on. Trainers are being rotated so you are training the lower ranks today." My grandmother said as she handed me an oversized t-shirt and begun walking towards the pack house.

It would be my fifth time leading a training session with the pack— when my grandmother reached the house she spun around and said, "please go easy on them," then opened the door and closed it behind her— but my first time training the lower ranked.

I headed over to my grandmother's house. I had to put on proper clothes and grab a snack before going back to the pack house to train the lower ranks, which was going to be a very exhausting, but rewarding first time experience. When they become excellent warriors.

Once I finished up at my grandmother's home, I rushed to the pack house. Turns out I, took longer than I should have getting ready and now I'm five minutes late. When it comes on to things pertaining to the pack I am very strict.

Punctuality is a must.

And when I am late it provides an opportunity for pack members to not take me seriously.

When I finally reached the pack house and down to the training area for the lower ranks, I saw that they had already started. Though they weren't far into training as they were stretching, step 2. I looked forward to see who was training them, then I spotted Conner.

Conner Maxwells, my future Beta. He had green eyes, dark brown hair and a tanned complexion, to put it simply, he was hot... and unmated. Certainly a piece of eye candy but we both are waiting for that special person that the moon chose for us.

My wolf whimpered, for every wolf there was always the possibility that we wouldn't have a mate. Many things in the supernatural world contributed to this but mainly, it was war... driven by greed.

I walked up to Conner, he sensed my presence and so did the other wolves training as they all stopped to bow, a sign of submission, showing me respect. I bowed back ordering them to continue doing whatever they were doing.

"Wow, 'Miss-I-so-don't-tolerate-lateness' was actually late for the first time in her life." Conner said while trying to imitate a squealing rat.

"Whatever Conner and I so don't sound like that."

"Oh, yes you do Danipoo." He said while smirking.

Just as I was about to reply my attention diverted towards the doorway, where the most amazing smell in the world, peppermint and a hint of forest, was coming from. Groaning could be heard coming from the same doorway, then a boy stumbled forward and fell onto his face.

"Mine!"

My wolf howled in my head. Mate. Mate! God he's my mate... wait he is my mate, how have I never noticed him before?

"Maybe it's because you've never trained or hung out around lower ranks before," my wolf said sarcastically, making me roll my eyes at her. But I would have surely noticed him around the pack somehow... right.

I was frozen in my spot, watching him as he got up from the floor, looking at me while he walked to the extreme back of the group.

He was sexy. His eyes— light blue streaks swirled together captivating me, his hair was black— a bit spiky and his light stubble outlined, perfectly, his chiseled jawline. His lips were pink and they appeared soft, I wondered what it felt like to kiss them or maybe... before my imagination grew wild, Conner rested his hand on my shoulder.

"Are you ok?" He asked. I reluctantly looked up at Conner and answered, "Yeah, I'm good."

I returned my gaze to my mate and it is as if he recognized who I was as his eyes immediately diverted to the floor and he whimpered.
