I'm Sasha Knight
My mom and dad have always told me that I was a special girl. And they were right. I have a gift, a magical gift. I have telekinesis. And ever since I was a kid, my parents has been talking about sending me to a boarding school. Not just any boarding school though, it’s The Zenore School of Wizardry.
The Zenore School of Wizardry trains kids with magical powers. But because my parents, me and my siblings lives in the village, we don’t make a lot of money. And sending me to such a fancy school is going to cost a lot.
I have three younger siblings, they’re triplets. Anna, Courtney and Ethan. My mom’s a seamstress and my dad runs a small shop that sells shoes. We’re quite popular in the village. Not because my dad’s shoes are good or my mom’s clothes are comfortable. But because of my younger siblings.
Anna, Courtney and Ethan are pretty naughty, which is ironic cause their names makes them sound so nice. They are always getting in trouble. From stealing bread to breaking people’s mailboxes. But the people in our village are great people, they’re nice enough to not call the police on them. But they’re too young to go to jail anyways, they’re just seven years old!
But they’ve caused enough trouble to get the entire family a bad reputation. That’s why not a lot of people goes to my father’s shop or buy my mother’s clothes, which is why we don’t have a lot of money.
Me and my siblings go to a normal school in the village. And my siblings have detention almost every day! They’re always breaking the school rules. Just two days ago they broke into the principal’s office, stole a bunch of documents, then flushed those documents DOWN THE TOILET. They got detention for a month. You should have seen how mad mom and dad was. They were yelling at them for an entire hour!
I’ve only ever had one detention, and it was a total misunderstanding. I was framed for locking a student in a locker. And to be honest, I’m not a total goody two shoes. I just try to be on my best behaviour because I thought life was hard enough for mom and dad. They work a lot everyday, and they have to worry about feeding four kids and themselves. And three of their kids are causing trouble everyday and they sometimes have to pay for what they did.
I want to go to Zenore too. Well, my parents want it more than I do. But I can’t say it’s not a dream of mine. I mean, think about it, a school built just to teach kids with magic, like me! But I guess as long as my family’s in poverty, or close to being in poverty, there’s no way they’ll be able to pay for me to go to Zenore. So I guess I could just dream about it in class.
'Sasha! Sasha! Wake up! Class is over!' I hear someone shout. I wake up with a jolt. 'Huh, what happened?' I hear myself say. I’m still in a daze. I guess I dozed off in math class again.
'Class ended five minutes ago! Were you thinking about how you can’t go to Zenore because of your annoying younger siblings, who are triplets?' says Andrea. Andrea’s been my best friend since I was a toddler. We don’t live far from each other.
'Um...yeah. You really get me. I’m sorry I keep complaining to you about the same old story over and over again.' I apologise. I’m always complaining to Andrea about how I can’t go to Zenore, mostly because of my siblings. I don’t understand why she hasn’t ditched me for another best friend already. I mean, I would if I were her, I’d be so bored listening to the same complaint over and over again.
Andrea puts her hand on my shoulder, it’s what she does when I feel sad. And it’s kind of comforting. 'It’s fine. Isn’t that what best friends are for? So you can complain to them all the time.' Andrea says. I nod. When suddenly, I hear a voice from afar.'Hurry up! We have to go before Sasha catches us! You know how she’s always ruining our plans!'
I don’t have to think twice to know that it’s my sister, Anna. I groan as I wonder to myself what kind of trouble the three of them are up to this time. And I suppose Andrea’s heard her voice too, because she immediately says, 'That’s Anna. Go deal with the three of them and I’ll head home first, we’ve got quite a lot of homework to do. Meet me at my house at four.'
'Got it! See you then!' I say as I walk to the hallway where Anna, Courtney and Ethan are.
They were shocked to see me. 'What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at home already' Courtney asks. 'No. I overslept in class and I heard you guys trying to sneak home when you’re supposed to be at detention for flushing the principal’s stuff down the toilet?' I ask.
'You’re not the boss of me!' Ethan yells, 'How do you even know we were going to sneak home anyway?'
I sigh, 'You guys have to stop sounding so loud when you try to do something sneaky. You were practically yelling out your plan for the whole school to hear. And also, I kind of am the boss of you. As your older sister, I have the responsibility to take care of you. If you don’t want detention, then try to behave, maybe?'
'We are trying to behave!' Courtney argues. But no matter what they say, I’m not letting them go home without the punishment they deserve.
'I don’t think so.' I say.
'Oh come on! Just let us skip once! And we promise that we’ll go to the rest of the detentions this month.' Anna begs. Then she starts making her puppy dog eyes. It always works on mom and dad and the rest of our relatives. But not on me.
'Look, if you go home, mom’s going to be really mad at you three, and I don’t want her to lose more brain cells because of you. She has to worry about tons of things, like if we have enough money today to make dinner and stuff. So for once, please behave.' I say. This time, I try to reason with them instead of the four of us screaming each other’s faces off.
'We don’t have enough money because you won’t use your amazing talent! I mean, why have magic powers when you won’t use them? You could steal from people without being noticed with your telekinesis. Then we’ll just sell whatever you steal and get the money!' Ethan says. The triplets always say that to me, thinking my powers would help the family, but I’d never steal, it’s not right and I am so not going to jail at the age of 12!
'Fine. If you guys don’t want to go to detention today, then I’ll let you skip it. But I’m going to ask the principal to give you detention for the rest of the year!' I say. I see their faces, they look like they were frightened, but trying to say ''you wouldn't dare!'' at the same time.
Anna sighs and says, 'You know what, we'll take today's detention. Now leave us alone!'
Oh please! I know what they're up to. They want me to believe that they were going to detention, and when I'm gone, they'll skip detention and go to their friend's house or go to the library and stay there until their detention is over. Well too bad for them, cause I know every wicked scheme they're trying to pull.
'Sorry, not sorrybut I'll be walking you there.' I say, they groan loudly, 'Now hurry up and follow me!''
