Toby open his eyes slowly, vision blurry. He could see two blurred figures, sitting close by. A faint beeping noise in the background, the smell of bleach surrounding a white room. His vision got clearer and he could see the two figures. There was a middle-aged woman and a middle-aged man, both crying, and smiling sad smiles. The woman had soft features, and, big, blue, round eyes, dripping with wet tears. While the man, had grey hair and a kind face, with small, green eyes.
“She’s awake..” The woman’s voice was hopeful and pleading. Toby rubbed his eyes, noticing that his hands were smaller. Why are my hands so small? I also have... nails?
“She?” Toby asked, wearily. He looked around. Tubes and wires were attached to his skin, and the beeping, was his heart rate. He smiled at the man and the woman, even if he was confused as to who they might be, and lifted the sheets of the hospital bed, to reveal bruised legs.
“These aren’t mine.” he spoke, staring at his bruised legs. His eyes were droopy with dark bags underneath them.
“These aren’t mine.” he repeated. Glancing at the now worried, teary-eyed couple. The man stared and Toby lifted his eyebrows in sympathy.
“What isn’t yours, honey?” ‘honey’? no one had ever called me, honey before... Who are these people? Toby rubbed his legs, they were soft, and hairless.
“These legs... They aren’t mine.” He pleaded. The woman put her soft, wrinkly hands on the man’s shoulder and whispered something.
“They aren’t?” The man rubbed his legs and Toby flinched away in terror.
“Arabella,” The woman spoke, glaring at Toby. She sniffled. “Stop playing games.”
Who is Arabella? I’m supposed to be dead. I got hit by a truck. No one took me to the hospital. Why am I here? My name is Toby and I am male....
“She’s just... confused.” The man’s worried tone enhanced as he rubbed Toby’s back. The heart monitor sped up and the beeps were faster.
Black. Everything was black now.
