Prologue
At the beginning of time, the universe was created by The Soul Spirit, an all powerful, formless entity that governs the laws of physics and nature with an iron fist.
It made the stars that shine in our darkest nights and the black holes that swallowed their brilliance.
But that was not all They made. Galaxies and planets burst into being, a creation so brilliant that The Soul Spirit Themself cries tears upon seeing its excellence.
They were so entranced by the possibilities of these worlds, that it breathed life into them.
It gave the world water to flow through the ground, put clouds in the sky, lightning in the heavens, erected stones and mountains from thin air, and made Its most precious creation. Life. This planet, It called Verneesia.
It created images of Itself, which It called The Spirits.
Into each of these Spirits, It gave a part of Itself, allowing each one to rule over a different part of the world It had created. Sky reined the heavens, his brother Ground ruled the earth, Water the deepest and most mysterious depths, and Fire the tumultuous and turbulent flickering sparks that fought for control, the Mediator to settle their disputes, and many more.
But The Soul Spirit was not done.
They made more, putting animals on the planet, Verneesia, It loved so dearly, giving The Spirits something to not just rule over, but to protect and to cherish as The Soul Spirit cherished Their Spirits.
But these new animals did not live very long, and The Soul Spirit could not stand to watch Its beloved creations be lost once their short connection to the infinite depths of time had been severed. So, into each of these animals, They gave another bit of Themself. A bit that many would come to call a soul.
When one of Their beloved creations would die, their soul would return to The Soul Spirit and be allowed to be reincarnated into another body.
The Soul Spirit had given Their final gift, but Its Spirits were not done with the creations.
Into select individuals, which were chosen for the base qualities deep within their souls, The Spirits would infuse a bit of their own power and create Champions.
These Champions ruled the world in tranquility and peace, praising The Spirits that had given them not just life, but also power beyond their wildest imaginations.
But for some, this power was not enough.
