Silver and Gold

Dawn sat on the hard log, her mind spinning around and around. It was nighttime, and there was a blazing fire the colour of Dawn's hair in the middle of some various-sized logs. It had been nine months since they escaped the human world, and much had changed.

With that said, Dawn had not changed very much. She still had the blazing orange-red-yellow hair. It had gotten longer, and she had often wore it in a braid now, although Alinar said it made her look a little too grown-up. Her eyes were still the strong grey colour, and her wing had fully grown back now, and it was just as strong as her other wing. Her ears were just as pointy as they were the last time we saw Dawn.

Fairy Godmother was sitting next to Dawn, and it is not surprising that she has not changed a single bit. She still has that curly, grey hair that hangs down her back, and her tiny wings. She was very helpful in the group, as she had almost everything in her bag. They never needed to worry about food when she was around, as she always had some kind of snack with her.

Mei, the human girl that Dawn brought with her when she escaped from the humans, was still with them. Her hair had straightened out a little bit, and she was very close to Penelope and Alinar. Most of the time Dawn would see one or the other peeking out of Mei's shirt pocket. Mei was fascinated with the magic world, and said that she would rather be a fairy or a pixie rather than a human.

King Septimus looked quite different, and he was probably the most changed. He didn't wear his fancy robes any more, but he wore a plain pair of brown trousers and a black shirt. He had shaved his beard, though the two white fawns still followed them--although they were hardly fawns any more. They were grown-up now, and one was a large, grand stag while the other was a beautiful doe. The doe was called Angel, and the stag was named Starlight. The King had also given his crown to Fairy Godmother for safekeeping, lest anybody find out who he was. He had changed for his own safety.

The Birch Guard had followed them wherever they went, and was loyal and kind. He guarded and protected them when they were in danger, although now he was getting older. He had thickened out, and his leaves were slowly falling to the ground.

Isen Runebloom, Dawn's father, was still the same. Grey eyes like Dawn's, and a small beard, was unchanged. He had a very good sense of humour, and could always get everyone to laugh when they were in times of trouble.

Right now they were in Mixed-up Meadow, where they had been for the last three months. At first they had hidden inside a secret chamber inside the King's palace, only the Queen found them there. So they fled to Mixed-up Meadow, where they had stayed with Adela. The humans had found Adela when she was at home by herself, and captured her. She later escaped with her family and they had to move to another country. And so Dawn, Isen, King Septimus, Mei, Penelope, Alinar, and the Birch Guard were currently camping in the small woods of Mixed-up Meadow. King Septimus had also placed a few enchantments around their campsite, so they were unseen and unheard, except the little animals that scurried about seemed to notice them, so they were unsure whether their spells worked or not. All they could do was hope.

Fairy Godmother patted Dawn on the back. "You should get some sleep," she said with a smile. Dawn smiled back and slid off of the log, laying down in the fresh, soft grass. She looked up at the stars, and wondered how many other people were camping out like this, and if they were camping for fun or if they were in danger like she was. She rolled onto her side and counted to one hundred to get to sleep.

Dawn woke up a little too early, as the sun had not fully risen and everybody else was sleeping. The stag was awake, though, and his glowing silver fur sent rays of light onto the ground. Dawn smiled at him and held out her hand. He cautiously trotted over to her, as the stag and doe pretty much always followed King Septimus, and were a little jumpy when left in the care of anybody else.
