Pulchra Castle sat stoically upon a great hill, looking down on the vast stretch of pines that surrounded the once grand estate. The building had long since been abandoned by humans and so sat in an obvious state of disarray. Stone was crumbling; wood was rotting, making it appear as though the castle had been unused for many years. But anyone to assume as much and choose to venture through the grad doors in the hope of reclaiming the property for human uses, would never walk back out. Over the years, many had talked of exploring the great crumbling building, though few dared.
The castle was situated near a small but wealthy town in the North of England. The town was filled to the point of bursting with both those who believed they could make their fortune in the new cotton industry, and those whose parents and grandparents had earned enough money in the shorter life of the wool industry to last them a good while.
There were few of the latter still living in town, as many had chosen to move to places that were less cramped and richer still.
Benjamin Hamilton was one of the ones who had opted to stay as his wife, Eliza, had become pregnant for a second time.
The pair's first child was a beautiful young girl named Charlotte who Ben loved with all his heart.
The five year old had taken after both her parents in look, with curly brown hair like her fathers, though noticeably longer and lighter, and green eyes almost exactly the same as her mother's.
Charlotte was a very sweet little girl, but by some misfortune she had been born with a disease that made her rather weak, and, for that reason, she was extremely spoiled.
Eliza wore very practical clothing, usually a simple skirt and blouse with her straight black hair pinned in a tight bun. She was beginning to show signs of her pregnancy and had recently purchased a new wardrobe of more comfortable clothes.
Benjamin was a generally practical man himself, though, as he possessed an almost ridiculous amount of 'old money', he never hesitated to treat himself, his daughter or wife to something new whenever they left their lands to venture into town.
Because of the Ben's outfit choices varied greatly. He always had something to complement his deep brown eyes or boyish curly hair.
