The one who saved my life
The streetlight shone through the darkness on the streets of the little mountain town she had found herself in. It was a lively place, even at night. People were crowding up around the only club and few restaurants that Existed around the place. Their cheers and laughter broke the stillness of the night air in comfortable way.
Thou she decided that she was not going to allow herself a drink, even thou she really just wanted a moment to forget and relax, albeit for only a few minutes. And also she didn’t feel like having to be chased for running out on her tab.Her pockets were empty, she had no money on her person. Which is what lead her to the decision of finding an alleyway and rest there for the night.
It wasn’t hard to find an ally, but it was harder to find one that’s empty. She’d preferably not sleep next to a stranger, but in the end she had nothing to be robbed of. The worst thing they could do would probably be to rape her, but it’s easy to kill one of those people if they tried. She lead out a satisfied sigh when she walked past an ally that looked to be empty. It was filled with darkness, the only thing visible to her eyes being a green dumpster with a lot of its content scattered across the already dirty ground. In other words it looked good enough. She didn’t need a place of comfortable, she just needed a of solitude.
She entered the alleyway and made her way towards the dumpster. If anyone had seen her, they would have she’d imagined that they would have looked her way a second time to make sure they weren’t imagining things. The darkness of the area she had just entered was off buy a cold, white light, emanating from her. She had nothing on her clothing that flowed, nor a flashlight or even a phone. The source of the light at present was her hair. As if she was a living flashlight. She didn’t pay herself any mind. She was used to the confusion of other people who witnessed her strange hair. Right now, she just wanted some rest. So when she reached behind the dumpster, she sat down on some papers and leaned against the wall. Feeling her eyes close and her consciousness fading, she fell into a southing, yet light sleep.
Her state of rest was suddenly interrupted my the unmistakable sounds of screaming in the distance. The loud noises knocked her out of her sleepy haze in an instant as to become more aware of what was happening around her.She rose from her sitting position and began making her way toward the commotion at a fast pace. And as she got closer to the source of the noise, she was hit by the smell of brunt wood and smoke.
‘A fire’ she realized after smelling the smoke, and seeing the huge amount of light, on the otherwise dark streets and houses.Anyone in this situation would probably had adrenaline pumping thru their bodies. There were most likely people in danger just around the corner and they don’t know if they are going to survive or not. Yet she was as calm as one could be. Even thou she was walking faster than walking speed, she was neither running nor panicking. Instead she felt a lingering curiosity for how this situation would turn out.
She rounded the last corner and was faced with the scene of the accident. It was a two-story building, one of many around it. The whole building was ablaze, making it impossible to even see inside the windows or even get an idea of what the house had looked before. The people that were around to witness the fire had a look of worry and a terror as they watched the fire eat at the wood. There were no firefighters around yet, most likely being on their way.She stood in front of the building and observed it. The smoke was gushing out of the damaged walls giving of the impression that every room of the house was probably filled to the brim. There was most likely no air inside. Making her think that everyone that might still be inside the house is already dead. In other words, there was no need for her to act.
She began to turn around and walk away, when she felt an eerie feeling travel down her spine. It felt like a cold wind had just made its way thru her body, making all her muscles tense up for a brief moment. She recognized this feeling, thou it was a rare one. She looked back at the tragic fate of a home. There was someone in there, and they’re still alive.
That was al she needed, she made her way across the street and over the front lawn, ignoring the cries and protests of the people around her as she did so. There was someone in there that she could convince, someone that could help her. When she entered the house she was met with intense heat and a lack of air. Thou that didn’t even hinder her in the slightest.
She continued thru the flames in search of the one giving her this feeling. However the only thing she could find during the first minutes were scorched furniture and walls. It was not such an out there statement that everything in there was on fire. That made it harder for her to move around, slowing her down while she made hand gestures summon forward power that seems unnatural to an outsider.
But it was when she entered a room she assumed used to be a living room, she was meet with a horrific sight. There on the floor laid two bodies. Both a bit scorched with sooty skin. It was a man and a woman, and if she would have to judge them by their appearances, they would have to be in their early thirties. Her eyes scanned them both as she silently acknowledged their lifeless states. These people were dead as one could be, so she continued on, considering there was nothing she could do. Except helping the one in the house thus heart she could feel still beat. And so her search continued. This time up the stairs. They felt unstable, as if she put more weigh onto them, they could collapse under her feet. Her solution? She crouched down and touched her feet, and when she stood up she nearly fell over. She chuckled in her mind at the fact that no matter how many time’s she made herself weightless, she would still have to take brief moment to adjust to her new and sometimes nonexistent, center of gravity.
She made her way up the stairs after that, looking like she was floating around in a space station as she did so. If not for the circumstances it would have looked kind of comedic. The second floor looked just as bad, if not worse. It was hared to move around and to see. The only things she could see thru the black smoke was more fires and the vague outlines of pieces of the ceiling that had caved in. She also had a hard time breathing, the smoke was thicker up there, making even her start to struggle for air.
She continued thru the narrow spaces of the hallway until she stood face to face with a closed door. She could feel the familiar shill run down her spine a second time. Whoever it was behind this door. She just needed to open up it up. Her hand grasped the door-Handel, immediately wincing slightly. The flames around it had heated it up, making it burn the skin of her hand. But she kept her hand steady, pulling the handle down to open the door. She pulled the door towards her, only to find it was either locked or blocked by something. She felt her patience run lower as she pulled the door towards herself yet again, this time with all her strength. Which resulted in the door being ripped off its hinges. She thru the door aside and looked at her hand, all the skin was gone. But she dismissed the pain and observed the room before her.
The room was filled to the brim with smoke, but it wasn’t as badly on fire as the rest of the house. It was evident that it belonged to someone young. The bed was small and there were a multitude of toys and clothes scattered along the ground and other surfaces. She wasn’t that focused on those things thou. Because on the floor next to the bed, a young child laid on its stomach. She could only see the outlines of the little person on the floor, so she couldn’t see if it was a boy or girl, its age or what state it was in.
She ran towards the kid and crouched down next to it. Then she turned it around. If she wouldn’t have had her special attribute of glowing in the dark, she wouldn’t have been able to make out the features of the person in her arms. It was a young boy, she wasn’t sure of his age but she could tell that he had a mix of round and sharp features throughout his face, and long dirty, messy read hair outlining his face. His eyes were shut, and a pained expression lingered on his face. He was passed out, and his chest was rising up and down in a struggle to fill his lungs in something else but smoke.
She brought her unscathed hand up to her lips and pressed it against them. Then placed it over the boys nose and mouth. She watched with a sense of relief as the boys expression softened ever so slightly as he began to breath again. Never taking her hand of his mouth, she stood up with him in his arms and began to exit the building. She entered the hallway once more and was walking with careful steps. Now when she didn’t have to be as observant of her surroundings, it touch her a shorter amount of time to make her way out. She held the boy closer to the body to keep in safe from anything that the burning hellskape had to throw at them on their way down.
When she was at the bottom of the stairs and was continuing to walk she heard a loud crack above her head. She looked up just in time to see a large piece of the ceiling fall down. She was quick however, freeing one hand from its grips sound the boy and moved it above her head. Her palm glowed green and the debris stopped in midair, just before hitting them. She could feel the pain of her injured hand as blood seeped out of the wound. She moved away from her spot until they were no longer in harms way, than released the energetic hold of the debris, hearing it hit the ground behind her with a crash. And then she was out of the hallway, she was out.
As soon as she came out of the building, she was attacked by spectators that were worried about her and the boys safety and wellbeing. They came closer than personal space allowed to observe if they were harmed. They asked questions than she could count at the same time. But she didn’t respond, she didn’t even look at them. There was no point in talking to them, they would just want to know more things, like who she was. She didn’t like when people noticed her, but this time she had to. She really hoped it was worth it.
The ambulance and firefighters came mere minutes after. She couldn’t deny that she felt a little hesitant when handing the boy to the paramedics. But she understood that it would look suspicious if she just ran of with the child. She would have to be extra careful, with would make it harder for her to make use of a this boys time on earth. So she handed him over to them and thy loaded him into the transport.
She looked behind her to see that the firefighters had begun to do her job, seeing as water was being sprayed over the flames that engolved it. She could have probably been able to put out the fire herself, but one again, she didn’t want to bring herself the attention.
She just stood there looking her the ambulance driving away. Its red and blue light blinking away in the distance as the siren sounded less and less. There was now no point to stay there anymore. She began to walk away from the scene, despite the protests of the people around her. Al she did was walk silently with looking down at her recently injured hand. Sighting at the fact that it was now, in fact, without so much as a scratch.
