Chapter 1 part 1
My body feels the life being drained out of it every second that I'm in this torturous room. Goosebumps run across my arms from the frigid air coming from the vent above my head. It takes everything I have to just stay conscious.
The desk they stuck me in is very stiff and uncomfortable as are all the other desks in the room. It's like they design this room to make you go mentally insane. The walls are just plain white decorated with posters about some kind of formulas that I'll never use in my life.
Mr. Peacock is talking something about triangles, "blah blah blah there are some triangles where they will only give you angles blah blah blah." No one ever listens to him because it's first period, and everyone is still sleepy. It's like an actual scene you would see on tv. The teacher would be talking in his monotone voice while the kids fall asleep or stare off into space while drooling.
My head lies against the hard wooden desk as I watch Mr. Peacock pace in front of the board, writing who knows what. The cold air with the combination of Mr. Peacock's voice finally broke me. Slowly, my eyelids close shut.
My eyes open to find myself in the middle of a forest. The ground is covered in moss and leaves, and the sunlight is partially blocked from the abundance of pine trees. I look around and feel something pulling at me to walk deeper in the forest, so I start heading in that direction.
Few minutes later, I hear some leaves cracking in the silence of the forest and look around to see a guy running in the opposite direction, about a hundred yards away. I can't really get a good look on his face, but I can see he's wearing a brown, wool vest. He looks like he's running from something.
Out of nowhere, a man suddenly appears in front of the guy with the brown wool vest running, and the guy runs into him and bounces off him like he's a brick wall. The guy standing over him is wearing a black slacks with black coat. His skin is pale and shiny black hair is pulled back to his neck.
I hide behind a tree to make sure I'm not seen by them. The pale guy is talking to the squirming kid on the ground, looking like he has seen satan himself. I can’t hear anything the pale man says, but he picks the kid up by the neck, and it's unbelievable.
The kid slowly starts to wither down slowly and wrinkle. The boy’s skin is white, but starts turning to grey rather than black and eventually nothing is left but his bare bones. I pull my head back slowly and skinny up behind the tree to make sure he doesn't see me. I count to myself for two minutes then poke my head to see that he's gone, so I just pretend like nothing happened and keep on walking
The forest starts to get dimmer and dimmer until I can only see my hands in front of me. I keep my hands straight in front of me to keep me from running into anything. After a few minutes of darkness, I see some kind of camp fire up ahead.
The little campfire is surrounded by four wooden logs perfectly cut and smooth. The fire itself seems to be at an equilibrium.
I sit on one of the logs and wait for something to happen. As I sit here, I feel a pair of eyes somewhere hidden in the darkness on me, but when I look around, I see nothing but the vast darkness. I start thinking it's the guy who sucked the life out of the kid, but I say to myself that it can't be. I just stare at the fire and wait. The only noise that can be heard is the crackling of the fire.
Suddenly, the fire ascends at rapid speeds and burns through the trees until daylight shines down. The trees start to catch fire and spread through the forest. The fire in the pit starts to slowly come back down, and a girl starts to become visible in the fire.
The girl has long auburn hair with piercing green eyes. Her skin is tinted from the fire surrounding her. With the light shining upon her, she looks like an angel coming down from the heavens. She looks around my age and looks directly at me, her green eyes seem to pierce right through my body.
The trees start to collapse around us, preventing us from escaping the raging wildfire. I'm just stuck in a gaze with the fire girl even with all the chaos around. She is the most beautiful girl I have seen.
"Desmond, Desmond." the girl saying, "Desmond, Desmond-"
All of the sudden, I'm jolted awake by the sound of a book slamming on my desk.
"Holy shi-" I catch myself at the very last minute. I look around to see everyone in the class has their eyes on me and I know why. Mr. Peacock is standing in front of me, staring me down.
"Desmond, If you want to actually pass this class for once then you actually need to pay attention and not sleep."
Everyone around the classroom starts laughing. "Sure thing, Mr. Peacock." I say, sounding very sarcastic.
He smiles back at me and says, "Okay then now where were we?" He walks back to the board and starts back on the board.
I sit up and think about the ominous dream. Who was that girl? I've never seen that girl before in my life, and the dream seemed so real. The fire seemed to be boiling me alive
I ponder these thoughts through the rest of class until the bell rings to head to the next class
