Chapter 1

It was the first day of summer! Hana has no school. Yay! No more homework that stops Hana from playing with me. Sorry. I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Bobo the cat. I’m no normal cat. I think like a person. I can do math, I can read, and I can even talk! I’m also very good at these things. Only Hana can understand me, though. But we help each other. I help her with math and homework, and she teaches me new things! She was the one who taught me how to talk and to read and do math! Without her, I would be a normal cat. Anyway, back to today.

Now, Hana was teaching me how to write. It’s not too hard. I already know how to do easy words like the and too. Now I was learning words like Mississippi and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. I love that word. 34 letters,14 syllables! WOW! I love it, I love it, I love it! Our house is in Tampa, Florida, and we live less than a mile to the beach. We go their almost every day. Our family owns a farm. Sometimes I go there to catch rats and mice. Right now we were in the barn on a barrel of hay. I was learning how to make sentences and we already were working on poetry! WOW! We are fast learners. So, we are having a good time then Hana’s mom says we have to go inside. We go inside then, as we were eating we are watching the news. It was about dogs missing and them being stolen. Why should I care? There dogs. Big, drooling, dirty dogs. But what’s this? MY DOG FRIEND JERRY IS MISSING!?!? WHAT!? We have to find him!

It was the middle of the night. Bobo was sneaking out his little door into the dark night to find Jerry. He wrote a note saying where he was going...

Jerry’s sent is in the air. I also smell a man. Somehow this man smells familiar. Could it be the mailman? No, he smells like onions. Could it be the milkman? No. He obviously smells like milk. This man smelled like garlic and sprite. I love the smell of sprite, but I do not like this man. Not at all. I started following my nose,(which by the way, is much better than a dog’s nose) to a dark alley. Thankfully, I have marvelous eyesight! With each passing step, the sent was getting stronger. And stronger. Then it was so strong, I could barely stand it. I knew I was really close. I turned the corner to see an old looking shack.

Leah: The character writing in this is lovely. Everyone feels rich and well fleshed out, even when introduced for only a moment.
