Summary

Amelia's mother ran away with her when she was only 5 years old. Twelve years later, after her mother's death, her father finally found her, and wants to take her and her little brother Jameson back to Los Angeles with him. The last thing Amelia wants after losing her mom is to go live with a stranger and even though she knows she won't be happy, she agrees because it's the best thing for her brother. What she didn't expect was that her new home would also be home to her hot stepbrother, Sebastian. With one look they're instantly attracted to each other, that is until Sebastian starts talking. Arrogant and mistrusting, he gets on Amelia's nerves and makes her wish her father never remarried. But as time goes by and they get to know each other, Sebastian and Amelia find themselves growing closer, much to her father's dismay. But can Amelia ever learn to trust the men in her life? And can love overcome the past and rise above the challenges life throws at them?

Prologue

As I was racing down the dark street, I could feel a sharp pain all over me, slicing through my body and making me dizzy. But I couldn’t stop running, because the only thing that mattered at that moment was getting back to the car I was thrown from.

A wave of relief washed through me when I reached the driver’s door and saw my mother trying to untangle herself from her seat belt. She was alive. But panic started to set in again when I saw the small fire coming from the engine.

“Mom!” I yelled. “Mom, come on, the car is on fire, you have to get out of there!” I frantically tried to pull open her door, but it was still locked.

“I got this Amelia” my mom screamed, and I’d never heard her sound so scared. “You go get your brother!”.

Reluctant to leave her alone, but knowing my brother needed my help, I moved to the back door. A second wave of relief hit me when Jameson’s little hands reached for mine. He was awake too. But he looked terrified.

“It’s okay, Jay. I’m getting you out of there.” I assured him.

I tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge, so I stretched my arms through the open window and reached for my brother’s the car seat. The pain and the fear had my whole body shaking and my hands sweating, which made it nearly impossible to undo the buckle. After I finally freed my baby brother from his seat belt, he jumped up and I helped him get through the window, holding him in my arms.

As I ran to the sidewalk, I noticed a bunch of people were gathering on the sidewalk to watch the aftermath of the crash, but no one was helping. I put my brother down on the sidewalk and made sure he was okay before I turned around to go back to the car and help my mom.

I had only taken two steps towards the car when the explosion happened, pushing me back to the ground and suddenly everything turned black.

That was very well written start. The imagery was good and it wasn't too long. I like that.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
