As I read her report my emotions became muddled. Part of me was exhilarated by her intensity, the rest of me was saddened that at fourteen she had been put behind bars. The world had been so cruel to this beautiful and dangerous flower that they just didn’t understand. All my thoughts began to boil down into basic instinct: find, find, find!

A loud smack jolted me from my thoughts, I look up to see my Beta Greyson fuming and pacing the length of the secure conference room. I glance at the folder he threw on the table, it’s contents spilled out. Printed photos from the surveillance footage in the ballroom, each one a still frame of me wooing a masked red haired beauty, Wren.

“This is unacceptable!” He roared, his eyes flashing blue and burning into me. “You are an Alpha for fucks sake!“ He marched closer to me with each step.

“Grey, everyone is safe. You need to calm down.” My voice was lilting while I thumbed through the the pictures. She was so damn gorgeous, and I was so fucking angry at her, when I found her I’d torture her in the best ways possible.

“Calm down?! A rogue pack broke into our pack house! During the Lunar Ball! In front of your constituents! A con woman seduced you by just glancing in your general direction! And yes someone did get hurt! Not to mention we were robbed!”

My other advisors grew uncomfortable, my Beta’s tone sounded like he was challenging me, but I was in too good of a mood. I couldn’t help but smirk at him arrogantly while I ran certain a strip of velvet between my fingers.

“Wipe that smug fucking look off your face! You put your entire pack in jeopardy to go fuck some whore!” He leaned over and smacked his hand on the table in front of me, punctuating his last word. His insult to her made me see red.

I grabbed his wrist and twisted hard, he wailed in pain while I rose to me feet snarling at him. When he tried to growl at me I slammed his head down onto table and pressed on his skull, making him whimper.

“I know my duty as Alpha. Know your place as Beta!” I hissed and shoved him aside. He slid to the floor, and whipped the blood coming from his mouth. “And if I seem to recall, you weren’t present at the time of the attack either. Where were you exactly?”

He turns away from me, unable to meet my eye.

“That’s what I thought, and don’t worry... we’ll find them.” I said.

My eyes became fixed to the large monitors that spanned the wall, showing the members of the rogue pack that had plagued my family for years. Dom, Val, Reggie, Michael, James, and my Wren. I sauntered over to her image, it was a close up of her during her escape tonight. Her hair was wild, her cheeks were flushed with color and her lipstick smeared from me.

“My apologies, Alpha.” Greyson whispered. “But how do you plan on finding them?”

A grin spread across my face while I looked deep into Wren’s pixelated turquoise eyes.

“And the eighth Alpha of the King Pack shall mate the enemy, the most powerful she wolf born in the hour of the Goddess.” I quote the prophecy I had heard my entire thirty years of life. It had become a sort of nursery rhyme for me, something a witch had told my ancestors that had been passed down and down. To me, Aldrich King, the eighth Alpha of the King Pack.

“What does the prophecy have to do... OH YOU'VE GOT TO BE FUCKING KIDDING ME!” Greyson whined.

I chuckled and held the velvet choker to my nose, breathing in Wren’s sweet scent.

“An Alpha always finds his mate.” My voice rumbled with excitement, my wolf clawing to hunt down our mate and drag her home.
