Chapter 1: Discussions

Jayce

It was a bright, beautiful day... as it was a beautiful day. The sun was shining just right into the windows of my home, glistening off the skin and jewels of my son Jin. I watched as he hung the necklace around his neck with a soft smile lingering on his lips, turning gently before brushing the dark brown hair that Alva has thankfully encouraged him to grow. I thank him every day for the confidence he's given my son.

''This was your mothers?'' He asked me. I couldn't help but let out a gentle sigh at his question. I placed the wine glass I had in my hand down on the table next to me, approaching Jin as I stood next to him as we both gazed in the mirror.

''This necklace belonged to a woman I knew ages ago. Her name was Jang-mi Lee.'' I said to him. He furrowed his eyebrows at the question, looking over in my direction with curious eyes.

''You happen to know a lot of women and men in your lifetime, dad. Do I have any brothers or sisters I don't know about?'' He teased me. I let out a fake laugh before bringing a hand to his hair, ruffling his head before sitting down in the chair that sat next to the awfully large mirror.

''No. You are the only Darkmore descendant after me, Jin. Including any children of yours...'' I said to him. He nodded his head at my words, bringing his paler hands up to his neck before unclasping the necklace that hung beautifully around it. He placed it in the box that sat next to an arrangement of other boxed jewelry... all gifts that I have purchased for people in the past.

''You never talk about your past, father. I'm beginning to think you're losing your memory.'' He said to me. I scoffed at his words as I clicked my fingers together, a glass of wine appearing in Jin's empty hand as he sat down across from me. He tilted his head in my direction as a 'thank you', motioning for me to reply afterward.

''You never asked,'' I replied.

''Well, I'm asking now!'' He exclaimed. He took a sip from his wine, scrunching his nose in response. He coughed afterward, earning a deep sigh from me.

''A Darkmore who doesn't like to drink. I never thought it would happen... your uncle was worse than me, you know.'' I told him. His eyes widened at my words, placing the wine glass down beside him as he looked intently at me. He leaned forward with curiosity in his eyes, running a tongue over his bottom lip before he spoke.

''Tell me about your brother. Let's start there... if it's not too much.'' He said to me. I couldn't help but laugh.

''It was over... two hundred years ago I believe. Let me start at the beginning."
