Preface
I ran up and down main street. I wasn’t afraid that I would get hit or maybe I just didn’t care. My life’s already a tangled mess so what’s the point of this life. I just hoped she would see me, it was worth the consequence.
“Hey mutt...move it.” I heard as I finished my last round of running. A man in a blue uniform from up and down started hard at me. I sneezed as the drops of rain started to fall down...again. It was monsoon season here in New York. I hated getting wet. I was a dog after all. The man had a donut in his hand. YUM...my tummy rumbled as if to agree that the donut was my next lunch. As fast as I could I ran towards the man and jumped. I grabbed it and made a run for it.
“Hey get back here you mutt.” He called but I was long past the main street. I gulped the donut down in one bite. It was delicious.
I ran to my hiding place, the only place where I felt safe, my only home. I came into the alley, under the broken wired fence, past the rock that looked like a cat...grrrr...and there was my little safe spot. To others it looked like a piece of junk put together but to moi(me in French) it looked like...a...masterpiece.
My masterpiece included an old quilt I had rescued from the dump. A cardboard box to keep off the rain and my favorite little teddy bear I found just lying on the pavement...alone...like me.
