Chapter 1
Leaving the world, you have known for whole your life is always tough and Evelyn O’Conner suddenly learned that as her family was shifting from their little town, Chester.
Now as she sat with all her friends and the guy, she has had a crush on since forever, she really doesn’t want to leave but alas, she has to.
“We will miss our little shy-ball!” Salem shouted as she half leaned on Evelyn and hugged her. “I’ll miss you.”
Evelyn too hugged her back as a little tear slid down her eyes and others too jumped on her to hug. Daniel, stood and looked at the girl sweetly bidding bye to Evelyn finally picked up a little courage to say something but the way she looked at Kiel stopped him from even trying.
There was never a chance for him, maybe.
He sighed and side-hugged her, Evelyn too, smiled at everyone and left with lots of memory and a heavy heart.
“How was it? Did you finally tell him about your feelings?” Evelyn looked at her sweet but loud mother Helen who was trying to whisper but her loud personality doesn’t exactly approve of whispers.
“What feeling? Tell who?!” as expected, father O’Conner came running as soon as he heard the word feelings and that too with a ‘him’ in the same sentence.
It was a wonder to Evelyn that her father is the manager of the biggest factory, his beautiful appearance right now might put every mechanic to shame. Where was the strict and stern manager who is known to have a stick up his ‘butt’?
Coloured in grease from head to toe because of the onslaught of her dear mother, who was badgering him with the task of cleaning chimney since they will be giving this house to her mother. this house, which means so much to each of them as they had the most memories here. When they first shifted to Chester from New York, it was wonder how they’d settled.
From the best place to the simplistic place where people really knows their neighbours, where air was so fresh that you could puff it all and fill yourself up. It was a new experience and an extremely pleasant one.
“So, what was it? Which guy, eve?” seeing how her father was still going on about the same thing, Evelyn sighed and whispered “Kiel.”
Evelyn’s father made a low sound of disapproval before sighing and said “So, it’s really him, huh!”
Evelyn confusedly looked up and her father patted her head as he said “You always spoke about him and his eyes when you were young. It wasn’t hard to determine that. You still want to confess?”
Evelyn thought of how they will be leaving in two days and shook her head. It was better this way. She would eventually forget about the black hair and blue eyes. Anyways, Brooklyn does have some better guys with even more varying shades of black to blue.
Though this thought was supposed to cheer up Evelyn but all she felt was depression because of how much she was going to miss all the things she has become used to.
“I’ll miss this.” She whispered as she stared into the sky, there weren’t many stars but the moon was unusually pretty tonight. Evelyn raised a hand and made a fist as if capturing the moon but as she pulled her fist back, a little tear slipped but her mouth was pulled in a smile.
It’s alright, it’s not as if things are ending. They are just going to create more memories with more and more new people.
“Hey.” Evelyn turned her head at the sound of her mother to see her laying next to her. “It’s pretty, right?”
“It is.”
“I am so going to miss all this!” Mrs. O’Conner looked at the sky again and then at her daughter.
They both stayed up all night and when they came down with runny noses, both heard lot of cute grumblings from Papa O’Conner.
“Bye, Uncle Fix. Take care of the house. Mom would flatten you otherwise.” Helen spoke to the neighbour who came to bid them bye and to take the keys to pass onto her mother who will be arriving a day later.
“Of course, Helen, I do fear the woman.” Uncle Fix looked a little depressed at the thought of the old woman who flattened him with her roller because of how he winked at her. Hey! She was pretty!
Uncle fix turned towards the house as he saw them off and finally went to his own to wait for the old woman. Life of a kind-hearted man is super tough.
“Dad, how long?” Evelyn asked as she laid her head on the window at her side while her father looked at the map once again before nodding to himself and saying “we will be there in 2 hours at most.”
Evelyn nodded before going back to her lazy position. Head out of the window placed on her hands with her body lying on the seat. Her straight hairs curled because of the wind and became a puzzle which will certainly hurt her once she used a comb.
Evelyn looked around as she watched a simple neighbourhood coming in her view with some kids running here and there and smiled as she waved at them while they too waved at her with a blushing or embarrassed face.
“They were so cute.” Helen gushed as she looked at the children playing.
“and we reached!” Martin shouted as he parked the car outside their new house. A two-story house with a relatively bright colour and in complete contrast with the neighbouring house.
Evelyn smiled as she saw the pretty looking house but she frowned as her eyes went towards the other houses in the locality. The neighbouring houses on the left side were still normal even if dull and scary but the other side was as if nobody inhibits in them. Her spine shivered as she looked at the broken house which was half covered by the tree in its lawn.
“Let’s go?” Martin O’Conner looked at his daughter who was staring at the house that was under construction and took her inside though he too felt a little unsettled as he stared at the house. Old memories never really die.
“I’ll take the upper one. It looks cool.” Evelyn decided as she moved some of the stuff that they brought in their car with her to the room while her father called the people who were bringing their stuff to check when they will reach.
“Yes, take a right from there and the third house… yes, with bright colours. Found it?” Martin moved out to see a truck pulling in and two young boys jumping out of it to help them with the boxes.
Evelyn looked down from the window to see the boys taking out all the boxes and putting them in the living room and then her attention turned to the house that was under construction. Even though the sign said that it was under-construction, Evelyn didn’t saw anything that proved it being under construction, rather it looked completely abandoned.
She looked towards the front and there was a girl, heavily under dressed according to the season and was climbing down her window but was too wobbly to really jump down from there.
She laughed as her high heel stuck in the tree beside the window but then she saw how she was almost on the verge of falling and opened the window to shout to her father.
“Dad! Dad!” her father looked at her and she pointed at the front to which he saw the almost falling girl and ran towards the place.
