"Cherry Skies is a delightfully dramatic romance tale written from the perspective of a strong-willed Colorado mother. Although the fast-paced plot handles the sensitive subject of toxic relationships, readers can instantly sympathize with the protagonist, Elizabeth, and her commendable ability to overcome past trauma. This quality is ever-present in Elizabeth's willingness to reconcile with her once estranged father and even mother. When disregarding the somewhat surface-level secondary characters, the narrative is centrally character-driven, focusing on family dynamics and trauma that propels the plot forward. Ultimately, the shocking twist of an ending portrays Elizabeth in a light that contradicts the novel's theme accentuating the danger of toxic relationships and the importance of self-sufficiency. Despite this, such a romance tale remains refreshing by promoting awareness of current relevant issues with coveted originality. My only critique extends to the frequent grammar errors containing sentences missing punctuation (mainly comma splice errors) and crude descriptions placed awkwardly through the manuscript. Lastly, the writing style pairs numerous long sentences with sentence fragments, both of which decrease the easy readability of the book. Overall, this is a compelling romance enhanced with an intriguing main character! Note: This is a judge's review written following the Roadmap Awards writing competition, round two."

"I feel the idea behind this book has potential, and it would especially stand out among the books you can find on Inkitt. It’s original and the plot is meaningful since there are a lot of people suffering in unhealthy or dangerous relationships, most of all women. The author gives us a glimpse into what hope looks like for such a woman, and the challenges she and her family must face to leave behind an unsalvageable relationship. Unfortunately, the final chapter gutted all the well-intended plot, and all the family’s effort to achieve a better life. I would have loved the protagonist to reject a second marriage, only to build a relationship based on mutual trust, unlike her first marriage. I would have loved to see her children striving to become better, without the need for extra trauma to drive the plot forward. Regarding secondary characters, I don’t know Colorado or its people, so I’m honestly curious; is everyone always so crude? I felt like everyone said things in the most annoying way possible, coming off as extremely rude. I understand not all characters have to be perfectly polite, but it made it hard to read at some point. The goal of writing a real story, without shying away from the ugly bits of life, is commendable and I can see the value in what the author aimed to achieve. But this makes writing a lot harder, and we should carefully balance how we portray our characters to make them at the very least, relatable."
