Summary

Winter Mae never considered herself to be popular and quite frankly she was perfectly content with the lack thereof. But she was and always had been pure perfection to Travis Collins. The pair had gone to school together for seven years, but only one had ever noticed the other. Then Winter disappears right before the start of their senior year. Gone with so much as a final cryptic text message to her best friend the night before. With everyone left in the dark on her whereabouts, Travis drives himself mad trying to solve the case and retrieve his soulmate. But what he and everyone else in their small Montana town will discover will change the rest of their lives forever.

~

I never thought it would end like this.

No one exactly says, “Hey! Your sad pathetic excuse of a life is gonna end right here, right now. Thanks for playing!” so I can’t be too surprised. But I was only seventeen... I didn’t even get to graduate high school. I was supposed to go to the senior prom with Lucas and retake the SAT’s. I wasn’t supposed to be found naked in the river by a hiker.

And to think that it was because of a complete stranger. My life and future just stripped away, never to be returned. My destiny had been written out by a sick and cruel god that obviously didn’t care about me.

But I can’t help but think about what I did to deserve it. These things don’t just happen by coincidence. A girl doesn’t go missing for five months and then ends up a corpse just because.

There had to have been a reason. Just one.

There just... had to.
