Prologue
Gellert Grindelwald, a name that demanded respect. Or better yet, fear.
Gellert Grindelwald was a powerful wizard, from coveting the elder wand to starting a war. Though there are those who had praised him and even followed his ideals of ‘The Greater Good’. Albus Dumbledore defeated Grindelwald in a duel, which led to Grindelwald’s imprisonment in Endangered Castle.
Witches and wizards alike had breathed after his defeat, knowing that his tyranny would be no more. What they didn’t know was that Grindelwald had a child. Blanchard Grindelwald, the man who would carry on with his ‘legacy’. Blanchard was just like his father. He knew his way around words, had blonde-white hair, and even had Gellert’s mismatched eye colors. Everything about him screamed at Gellert. It was just as Blanchard had intended, of course. He wanted to make his father proud. Until he met Keisha in return. A pureblood that had attended Hogwarts, the school of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Quetrenia was the embodiment of beauty in Blanchard’s eyes - golden tan skin, beautiful deep brown eyes that mesmerized anyone who dared stare for a minute, her long, curly locks of black hair, and her plump rosy lips. She was beautiful
Blanchard had watched Quetrenia from a distance and noticed her gift in dueling. He then found out that she had wanted to become an Auror. However, he knew that as a Grindelwald; he stood no chance, and she would never bother to look past his name. So, he concealed his Grindelwald traits through transfiguration, dawning forest green eyes, and blonde hair. He looked normal.
At first, Quetrenia had ignored his advances, but the more he tried, the more she fell in love. They then had a union, and soon after, they had a son. Sebastian Elsi Lain. Sebastian was a peculiar baby. Having inherited his grandfather’s eyes, Quetrenia had thought it was peculiar, “Darling, what do you make of his eyes?”
“A rare case of that Heterochromia, dear. Nothing to worry about!”
“But darling, no one in my family, nor you have blue eyes!”
“Hence Heterochromia, quite rare, dear,” Blanchard had dismissed as he got ready to go to the ‘Ministry of Magic’ for his ‘job’, “Right, I best be off then. Wouldn’t want to be late.”
This was an everyday situation for Blanchard. He had been living his double life as both Blanchard Lain and Blanchard Grindelwald. Whenever he had left his home for ‘work’, he had disapperated to Numengard castle, where his loyal followers had patiently waited for him and where he had dispelled his transfiguration. This was unknown to Keisha Quetrenia.
Quetrenia went to the grocery with Sebastian and passed by the Ministry of Magic to give Blanchard snacks and a good luck kiss for the day. She does this since Blanchard had always been telling her to avoid going to the Ministry of Magic to steer clear of enemies spotting her. After all, she knew what dangers lay ahead being an Auror. She had even aspired to be one at some point. But after meeting Blanchard, he had convinced her to become a stay-at-home wife instead so that she would not endanger life altogether.
“Excuse me, but may I please speak to Blanchard Lain?” Quetrenia asked with glee.
“I’m sorry, Miss, who?” asked the worker.
“Blanchard Lain, my husband. He’s an Auror here!”
“My apologies, but there is no one by the name of Blanchard Lain here.” Quetrenia’s eyes widened. She looked at Sebastian and the groceries she held. Something wasn’t right. Apologizing to the front desk, she scurried away.
Entering their home, Quetrenia placed the groceries in their proper places and carefully laid a sleeping Sebastian back into his cradle. Kissing his forehead, she rushed to Blanchard’s office. She’d always sneak peeks to see the insides of his office, and from what she’d always seen, it was devoid of business-related items. Thinking back to it, she stands in front of the doors proudly. She pushed them open and scavenged around to find out what had happened at the Ministry of Magic earlier.
Blanchard had arrived home late once again, but he was unaware of the events that were transpiring against him. “Dear, I’m home!”
Silence.
He called out once more, “My love? Sebastian?”
No reply, not a single wail from his infant son. This got him on edge. He slowly entered the kitchen and noticed a piece of paper stuck in their refrigerator.
’Blanchard.
Meet me at the back of Diagon Alley.
I’ll be waiting.
-Quetrenia’
Gathering his wand, he disapperated.
It was the dead of night. Shops and taverns alike were closed. The moon shone into a woman’s figure, Keisha. Blanchard could tell it was his wife from a mile away, “Not another step,” she turned around, her eyes glowing with a fiery rage, “Not another step, Grindelwald.”
Blanchard stopped in his tracks. “What?” he stammered. “Keisha, what do you-“
“Shut up! You liar!” Keisha yelled at the top of her lungs. You could tell she was fuming, with how her words seethed with venom, “How could you?” she asked, tears welling up in her eyes.
“What?”
“How could you! Blanchard, you’re a Grindelwald!” she scoffed. “I can’t believe it, I started a family with Gellert Grindelwald’s secret child!”
“All these years, and you didn’t even try to tell me?” she continued. “Blanchard, how could you! You tricked me!”
“Keisha, my love, I-“
“Stop! Stop saying that. I’m not ‘your love’,” she paused and took a deep breath in. “You were too kind, and I was naïve. I’m trying so hard to think that you would never do me wrong.”
“And I haven’t, my love, I would never! Please, let us stop this and go home. Live our happy lives together. The three of us.”
“No, Blanchard,” she glared at him, raising her wand with Blanchard cautiously following her movements, “There’s no going back!”
Blanchard had lost his patience, and when Keisha was about to chant her spell, he blacked out.
“Avada kedavra!”
Silence.
Oh, god.
“Keisha!” Blanchard yelled as he ran towards her limp body, “Oh, god. No, no. Please, no!” he cried out. He used a curse on his wife, the woman he swore he would protect.
He cradled her in his arms gently, rocking back and forth, sobbing apologies to her. He knew it wouldn’t reach her, but he still tried.
In one last act of desperation, he raised his wand towards himself, and slowly, he said, “Avada Kedavra.”
