The sky was very dark, and you could not see the road. No artificial light would break thru this darkness. Only a special kind of candle would penetrate the view of the path. Arthur held his candle in his hand. He led the way down the road leading the 5 members of his family. “Easy does it. Keep your ears open everyone. Look forward, and don’t look back.” He instructed them. He could hear chirping, and scratching of rocks around them. He would feel a jerk on his hand every so often by a member startled. “Ignore the sounds. We need to keep forward.”
The darkness began about 2 hours ago, which felt like 2 days. The walk was terrifying and treacherous. Arthur was prepared for this day for many months now. He kept telling his family it would happen, yet they laughed at him and told him he was crazy. On his back hung a large backpack full of items that would be handy for the event. He knew where he was going. The chapel down the road. When the darkness began to fall, he called for his family members to follow him. The darkness was arriving and they needed to get to safety. Out of the 9 members in the house, only 5 followed him. Angela, his Daughter, Fiona his sister, Roger his brother, Michael his Dad and Ginger his Mom. The ones left behind were his other 2 brothers and their family. His Mom was not happy for leaving them. She kept telling Arthur They need to go back for them They might need help. Arthur told her not to look back and not to think about it.
Soon they arrived at the door of the Chapel. Arthur was used to the path because he walked it every morning for prayer. He grabbed the handle and turned. The door opened slowly and he peered into the room. He saw 3 other bodies sitting with candles.
“Arthur, you made it, Thank God.” A familiar voice spoke. Alex got up and embraced his friend. Alex’s wife and son sat in the pews quiet and scared. Arthur noticed the room was lit well with candles around the room. As the last member entered the chapel, They closed the door and sat down. As they sat, a scratch on the door was heard. This startled many.
“Whatever happens, do not answer that door. Friends can enter on their own, yet Enemies need us to open. So do not open no matter what you hear out there.” Arthur told his family. Apparently Alex’s family has already been told this warning. Arthur’s Daughter Angela was prepared for this event as well, yet being 12 years old, she seemed to be braver then others. Arthurs Mom and dad were strong Catholics, but the three days of darkness sounded more like a conspiracy theory to them. Years ago, this day was preached online thru social media and video chats. The media ridiculed this event and called it nonsense. Others called it just a way to make money for the apocalypse. Arthur prepared more then years ago. He was ready when he was in his teens.
As the members sat there in silence, they heard voices outside. Families voices. At once, there was a call for help.
“Mom, it’s me, please help me, I cannot see. I need you to guide me. Please help!”
“That’s Samuel. I need to go get him.” Arthur’s Mom cried as getting up and going toward the door.
“That’s not Samual Mom.” Arthur said with a serious voice. Those are demons tempting us to go out. Once we are out, we will not be safe. Let’s pray”
Arthur and his friend began leading the rosary. As they began, they heard more crying and walking outside.
“Help us anyone! Please we cannot see!”
The group continued praying. Ignoring the noise from outside.
