Something Sceptical
Ayesha was sitting on the bed crying, her one hand covered the bed sheet and the other covered her mouth to prevent anyone from hearing her cry. Even if you try to wipe her tears away, they were getting replaced by new ones. Her eyes were already red and swollen from crying too much. For you it was too hard to accept the fact......You were in her bedroom crying when she heard some sounds in the hallway, she immediately wiped her tears off and looked at the mirror once, before going out.
Aditya: Mommaa
Ayesha: Coming
She took a deep breath and went outside the bedroom. As she entered the living room she saw her husband and son playing each other but their attention suddenly fall on you as Aditya ran upto her.
Aditya: Mommaa!!!(He hugged her knees as she picked him up in her embrace placing a kiss on his forehead whilst he gave his boxy smile making her smile back at him)
Ayesha: Did you have fun with dad?? (She asked caressing Aditya’s head but her pluffy and swollen eyes didnot go by Manish as he frowned)
Aditya: Yess mommaa!!
Manish: Then go and do your homework now as you have school tomorrrow.
Aditya nodded as she looked at Manish.
Aditya ran up to his room as Manish immediately hugged her, his sudden action took her in surprise.
Manish: You cried again today right???
Her eyes widened as soon as she heard his deep voice.
Ayesha: I.....I...
Manish: Don’t hide it from me Ayesha, I know you cry everyday, I hear your silent cries every midnight!!
She hugged him tighter as she cried even harder than before.
Ayesha: MANISH!!!
She cried harder on his shoulder as he patted her back, trying to come her down and assuring her it was okay.
Ayesha: I can’t lose you Manish!!!
Manish: Listen Ayesha, you have to be strong for our baby okay?!!? Be strong!! I am always there by your side.
Ayesha: Manish...
Even after hearing so many soft and calm words her tears did not stop even for a bit.
Manish: Ayesha...
He broke the hug and caressed her cheeks and stared deep inside her teary, red and swollen eyes.
Manish: I want to make Aditya a violinist just like me. This is my last wish Ayesha, I want him to be like me.
She nodded crying as you both tightly hugged each other , little did you both know that Aditya was watching you both confused from behind the door. As soon as she hugged him saw his hair falling on his shoulders, she tried to control her tears and just hugged him more tightly.
Jiya: So he was in cancer third stage?? Couldn’t he have been saved??
Ayesha: It was too late.....We found out that he was on the third stage of cancer when Aditya was only 2 years old. He wanted to make Aditya a violinist like him but as time passed by Aditya was old enough to play violin but Manish was too weak even to carry the violin, it let go alone teaching it. Manish would lie on the bed almost the entire day while Aditya would accompany him. They both would play alot of paper games. Aditya would run to our bedroom with a paper and a pen while calling his dad.
Jiya: (nods)
Ayesha: Manish would easily get tired and this habit of dozing off but instead of waking up his father Aditya would take it as his nap time and sleep beside his father hugging him.
Jiya: They seemed to have a very good relationship!!!
Ayesha: (chuckles) Yeah indeed!! The paper game that Aditya liked the most was the game of hangman
Jiya:(frowns) The game of hangman?
Ayesha: Yeah Aditya would love to guess the silly and funny phrases that his father would come up with…..He loved drawing the little hangman figure which he drew a lot. The father and son would sometimes fall asleep while playing the game…..I would find them covered up in papers…..And the day came when Aditya woke up but Manish did not(sighs)(tries to control her tears)
Jiya: How did Aditya react top his father’s death??
Ayesha: (sign) He was there hugging his father and telling his father not to go, telling his father how much he loves him and he also wants to become a violinist like him, I still remember that day……
Aditya: Dad!! Dad please wake up!!! It’s your turn now
Aditya said to his father as he placed the paper and pencil on the night stand. Waiting for his father to take the paper and write the next phrase and form the hangman. Aditya waited and waited but Manish did not woke up usually Manish would wake up after sometimes of Aditya calling him but today he didn’t.
Aditya: Dad-
Aditya was about to wake his dad up but he froze on his place when he felt his dad’s body temperature was as cold as ice which made him freaked out.
Aditya: Dad wake up please!!! I love you Dad!!! Please don’t go!!!!!
With that Aditya broke down into tears and hugged his dad tightly not wanting to let go off his dad.
Aditya: Dad!! You wanted me to be a violinist please do not go!!!!
Hearing her son’s painful cry laced with bitterness, she ran up the stairs to see what happened. Opening the door, her heart shattered into countless pieces. She became numb at her own place she could not move a single inch from her position as she was trying to process the scene in front of her eyes , it was a scene which she never wanted to witness in her entire life. Never Ever.
Ayesha: Aditya-
Hearing his mother’s voice he rushed towards her, hugging her tightly and started to shake her.
Aditya: Please tell dad to wake up!! Mommaa please!!!
Her cheeks became wet with warm liquid. She was still trying to process the fact that her husband was no longer in this world. She was trying to convince herself and make herself belief the bitter truth of life which was her most scariest nightmare. She bent down to the level of her son and hugged back Aditya tightly.
Aditya: Mommaa why did Dad leave us??
Saying these words he started to cry even harder. She caressed her son’s head softly and was trying hard to prevent herself from breaking down.
Ayesha: He did not leave us dear, he went to God’s house and soon he will comeback again an-
Her words got cut off by Aditya
Aditya: Mommaa I also want to go to God’s Hou-
Ayesha did not let her son finish the entire sentence, before that only she pressed her hand on his mouth to prevent him from speaking further more.
Ayesha: Adi don’t say something like that ever again ok??
Aditya hummed in response and hugged her even more tightly. She was patting his back and whispering sweet words in his ears in order to comfort and calm him down.
Jiya: And how did he handled everything afterwards??
Ayesha: He became very quiet and sullen, kept on holding onto the note book in which he used to play hangman with his dad. He never let go off that note book. I once asked him how about we play hangman like he used to play with his dad but he just shook his head, his opinion was it would not feel right for someone else to finish it.
Jiya: Did that change later on??
Ayesha: Yeah it did!! After four months of Manish’s death, Aditya bounced back to normal. I just thought it because children are more resilent you know. I was cleaning the room one day and found out his note book. I flipped to the last page of the note book to find the unfinished hangman was completed by him now. It wasn’t the last game of hangman anymore. There were a dozens of fresh hangmans created. I got curious.
Ayesha: Adi come down
He came down hearing his mother’s voice with a note book in his hand as usual and looked at his mother with a confusing look plastered on his face.
Ayesha: How did this finish?? Tell me!!
He was a bit angry and a bit scared but he would eventually tell her if she promises not to get angry or punish him.
Ayesha: Okay!! So what is going on Adi??
Aditya: My bestfriend at school saw me how sad I was after dad passed away so….
Ayesha: So??
Aditya: So he gave me the Ouija board and said I can speak to dad!! Now I can speak to dad forever!!
Ayesha: Adi told me that he had been playing hangman with his dad using that Ouija board eversince!!
Jiya: And how did you react to it??
