Prologue

Dear Victor,

In 18 minutes time I will go and lie on the railway track at Garelt. I will wait for the 00:13 D-train to come around the Garelt bend and 12 seconds after sighting it, it will reach my head. You don’t know it yet, but I’m doing this for you, my son. I’m committing your suicide. Of course, it is because of me that you wanted to commit suicide, but that is a small thing, Victor. There is nothing bigger than freedom of choice.

This is my greatest gamble, Victor, the planning has been excruciating, the execution is just that, but the outcome... I daren’t even imagine it, for they watch, they are everywhere. You have already encountered them, for it was their minions that killed Emily. I understand that you loved her, but I hope in the future you will be able to count that as an acceptable loss. The heart is an attractive playground, but battles are won and lost at a cellular level. Karl will help you with this.

Before I die, I will be you. I will feel everything that you are. I look forward to knowing you as I could not in life. I cannot send this as it would change too much, I will burn it and perhaps, from the particles that enter the air, you will know that I say, goodbye.
