Prologue
“You’re not even aware of how happy I am to be spending the summertime only with you,” Katya said enthusiastically, and I sighed.
“But we will not be alone,” I whisper, frustrated, alluding to the fact that my parents demand that my older brother stay there with us.
“It’s not that bad,” she again lets me know that she has a big crush on my brother.
“How much longer will they treat me like a child? I’m eighteen,” Denis’s presence is not what upsets me. Their attitude towards me is.
In fact, I have a good relationship with my brother. Since he is six years older than me, he has always protected me from anything and anyone. I could always tell him everything, and he always rescued me from all the shits I caused. And there was plenty of them. I was a terrible kid.
“It’s even better that he’s going with us. Otherwise, they would regularly check up on you, and this way, Denis will guarantee that everything is excellent. But as always, he will let us do whatever we want,” for the first time, I see the situation from her angle, and I genuinely smile.
“You know, Katya, I love the way you think.”
“And Denis knows Spain very well, so we will have a private guide,” she smiled dreamily, which got me to roll my eyes. Although it’s not that she’s not right. I’ve seen less of him since he left for Valencia, yet I’m still glad for him.
“Speaking of Denis,” I grin before accepting the video call.
“Do I finally see my sis?”
“As you missed me,” I began to tease him and noticed that he rolled his eyes.
“When are you coming?” He asked with a bright smile, and I glanced at Katya, who was about to melt.
“In two days,” I respond absently, pondering on how to fix Katya.
“Katja is there with you, isn’t she?“, He chuckles after realizing the cause of my absence. I nodded, and she took the chance to join the frame and wave to him.
“I hope at least you’re excited when Vika already isn’t.”
“Of course, I am. Spain looks ideal,” she talks to him, so I just leave the conversation to her.
“Oh, believe me, it is.”
“Denis!” I catch a yell from the opposite side of the line, and soon I see another guy in the frame.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know you were talking. Hi, Vika,” he says hi to me, to which I just nod before I disappear from the frame. I don’t have the strength to talk to him in front of Denis.
“Hi, Katya,” he waved at her, but she, unlike me, greeted him politely.
“Hi, Fedya,” she said the name of the guy, who had been the subject of all my fantasies for years; the guy I lost my virtue with, and ever since then, I have been acting like nothing happened.
“I didn’t expect to see you,” she told him quite casually as I restlessly strolled throughout the room.
“I asked him to keep me company while I play your babysitter.”
