Entrance
“Welcome to Hell.” I hear the announcement over what sounds like a PA system. It is spoken in English, by a male voice. Beyond that, I am not sure of anything. Oh, human; it definitely sounds human.
I do not open my eyes.
“Welcome to Hell.” It sounds exactly the same.
I do not open my eyes.
“Welcome to Hell.” The voice has not increased in volume or ire. It sounds the same this third time as it did the first time. ‘Huh,’ I think, ‘so it’s a recording. Some joke. Someone probably got bored one day.’
‘What a weird dream,’ I tell myself. ‘I’ll probably wake up soon.’
“Welcome to Hell.” Now I do start to wonder if the voice is, in fact, getting angrier. It seems a bit piqued. ‘It must be a recording though,’ I try to reassure myself.
“Welcome to Hell.”
‘Nope. This is ridiculous. I refuse to be welcomed. I am not in Hell!’
“Yes you are.”
I open my eyes.
“Glad to have you with us.”
