Prologue: Taste of mud
''A day from retirement, man I'll miss yah, you were a good part of the team.'' The man at the front had said. His name is Harold, he's a close friend of mine, both of us had become police officers down here in California. We've known each other since we were kids just roaming around the city after school.
Suddenly the tv in the room beamed a bright red with sirens. ''An emergency? What is it-'' Before he could finish his sentence the tv shut off and we received a call, then another, and another, hundreds of calls flooding it with terrified citizens. The tv turned back on. The US had been developing a dangerous weapon...the strongest nuke of all and had launched it to hit another country but instead it had fallen down and was heading straight for a nearby city, completely obliterating it and launching radioactive sludge everywhere. We thought it was over but, that wasn't even the end. The immense shockwave ripped the ground and destroyed everything in its path.
I looked at Harold's face. He was pale with fear and terror. ''I'll be back!'' then he left in a hurry, I'd never see him again. He died out there probably, wasn't as lucky as I would be later on.
I ran outside and witnessed a horror I thought I'd never had to face. Rocks crashed down as the ash and dust stormed in, earthquakes shaking me. I would've escaped but, my leg got caught and I fell down into the radioactive mud, slightly burning my skin. I felt so weak and became paralyzed, I sank deeply into the mud, even tasting it. I accepted my fate......
I had woken up, I got out of the mud. And looked around...how long had it been? My memory was fading away as I looked at the golden sand, I crawled out of this small cave and tied my boots laces, got up, then went on to explore this new world.
