Memory
I was always there with her, ever since she was an infant. I guided her and made sure she was safe everywhere she went. She was very clumsy when she was a child so she would easily trip from time to time but i would always be there to catch her and comfort her if she got hurt. My angel. Thats exactly what she was. We would play and spend most our time near the hidden lake in the woods splashing water at each other, laughing and enjoying each others company.
Her golden brown eyes sparkled in the sunlight as she looked at the trees and listened to the birds chirp. Her mesmerising long curls cascading down her shoulders like a beautiful curtain, hiding her from the cruel world and its evil ways. Her petite figure, so small and fragile but her heart and mind were the complete opposite. She was headstrong, caring, outspoken and just overall perfect.
Sometimes the silent signs she would give me to express her feelings towards me were adorable. Once when we were 10, she tried to wink but it resulted in both of her eyes closing tightly as if she just ate something sour. It was the most hilarious yet amusing thing ever. From that day on, that was our little sign and neither of us had a problem with it. It was something only we knew what it meant which made it even more special.
*FLASHBACK*
The forest was a beautiful emerald green with vines swaying and birds singing peaceful melodies. Going deeper and deeper into the heart of it we found a willow and behind it was the most breathtaking lake we had ever seen, hidden from the outside world. The light from the sun hitting the lake made it look like a portal leading to thousands of different dimensions, shining in its glory and waiting to be entered. At night, fire flies would light up the place, magnifying its beauty and making it look even more magical than it did in the daytime. It was a place only her and I knew of. Our place. We discovered it when we were little and from that day on we made it our little hideout.
We were in love with each other, yet we were too shy to express our feelings. It didn't matter tho because as long as we had each other nothing else in the world mattered. I didn't know when exactly i developed feelings for her or maybe they were already there from the beginning but what i did know was that i was never gonna let her go. I was hers and she was mine. We both knew it.
It was an early morning of April and we were told to go out and play because the parents had something important to discuss.
"You can't catch meeee!!!" she shouted. Though it didn't sound like a shout considering her voice was sweet, like an angels. I ran after her for a while pretending to catch her every now and then just to hear her small and adorable screams or giggles of fear and excitement afraid that i would catch up to her.
After a while i finally caught her, pinning her down on the grass and laughing at her dramatic reaction to being caught. "Gotcha" i said smiling from ear to ear and pinning both of her hands above her head to have a better grip on them. I was staring into her eyes feeling almost hypnotised by how mesmerising they were. We stayed like that for a while before she lightly pushed me off with a deep blush on her cheeks, avoiding eye contact. I laughed, falling next to her on the grass and looking at the sky.
*FLASHBACK ENDS*
We were born one day apart. I was the older one out of the two which i was particularly proud of to be honest because it meant that i could use it as an excuse whenever she asked why i always protected her from everything. We were always together when we were little because our mothers were close friends, and had been since they were small. Those were the best days of my life until my parents died. I didn't come out of my room for days on end. I was the one who found them dead in their bedroom, their bodies slaughtered and their limbs ripped apart one by one.
It was one of the most traumatic experiences in my entire life. That memory engraved in my mind forever, was enough to make me distance myself and become a ruthless Alpha, afraid that once i opened up to anyone they would betray me or better yet become a weakness i couldn't protect.
I was forced to take over the pack at a young age. It wasn't something i wanted but it was my duty to take care of them. Unfortunately for me, that meant moving away from Her due to our species almost being found after the incident.
It was the most heartbreaking thing i ever felt in my entire life when i left her. I loved her. She was my everything even if i couldn't feel the mate pull towards her because she was human. Albeit, i was glad to know that she was somewhere safe with her family and that she couldn't become a weakness to me if i left.
Why? Because i would force myself to forget everything about her and the life i once had, to ensure that she remained safe. Untouched by the evil in this world as much as possible.
At least that's how it was meant to happen until i saw her again 8 years later.
