Chapter 1

I am Prince Xander, son of Zain and Estella Wright, the King and Queen of the Dragonsphire Stronghold. I’m not your ordinary Prince that sits around and waits for servants to assist him. I’m the Prince that makes his own bed, cooks his own food, and prepares his own bath. I love doing things myself. It’s what keeps me alive and healthy. You can’t trust everything that is cooked for you, am I right?

As the only heir to the throne, I am to stay alive as long as possible. As of right now, the least I can do is take care of my parents. There are rumors of a death threat going around and I want to be the one to stop it from happening. I’m not sure how my life will turn out, if my parents are dead. Right now I am busy getting ready for an adventure to change the future.

“But your highness, you can’t leave the castle unattended.”

“That’s what the King and Queen got you for. If they ask you, the last time you saw me I was tending to the stables.”

“You know I will never lie to your parents.”

“It’s not a lie. You stood right there and watched me. Say it isn’t so,” I got onto Bella, “If you don’t tell them, then just protect them with your life.”

“Yes, your highness.”

“And Louis…keep everyone and anyone out of the castle. Come on, Ma Bella!”

I rode off on horseback leaving the castle in the distance. Whatever happens I need to find out who wants to kill my parents. Even if it’s the last thing I do. It was nightfall and I wasn’t even halfway through RedWood forest. It wasn’t the best place to be, but I need to stop.

I dismounted off my horse and walked to a hidden area. I didn’t want to be found by anything or anyone. There are rumors about this forest as well. Anything that has breath is a threat to me. I took out water and offered Bella some and I drank some, too.

“Ma Bella, we will stay here for the night. Beware of your surroundings,” she neighed, “Shhh, that doesn’t mean I won’t protect you. I promise you that.”

I’ve known Bella since she was a foal. That is because I stole her from another kingdom. How would I know he wasn’t telling me to steal her? Well it doesn’t matter now. Bella belongs to me and only me.

I decided not to make a fire because it might bring attention to us. I’m not one for the outdoors, so I tied Bella to the tree I was going to sleep in. It’s not everyday that I get to sleep in a tree in the scariest, forsaken forest of Dragonsphire Kingdom. Once I was settled in the tree, I faced the sky and drifted off to sleep.

“Ave lena solofanua!” (take that horse)

I rolled over, almost preparing to fall out the tree. Bracing for impact, but it never came. I opened my eyes and spears were all in my face.

“O ai oe?” (who are you)

“O a oe?” (what are you)

“I don’t unders-”

“Salapu! O ia o Amerika.” (shut up! He is american)

“Uh…O a’u o le perenise.” (uh…I am the prince)

One of them points their spear closer,”Le perenise o le a?” (the prince of what)

“Dragonsphire. Just outside this forest.”

They whispered amongst themselves, “E te iloa le mea o loo ia fai mai ai?” (do you know what he is saying)

“Bella! Ma Bella! Horse…white horse,” I traced a horse in the dirt.

“Solofanua,” they whispered to each other. (horse)

I was meant to know every language, but this one wasn’t so easy. I didn’t know much Samoanian and that is now a problem.

“aumai le faaliliu!” (bring the translator)

“No, let me go! The king will have your heads when he hears about this!”

They threw a girl onto the ground in front of me. She scrambled to her feet and snapped at the Samoanians…literally. I’m sitting here smiling…amused if I say so myself. I sat and watched as she kept getting closer and closer to me. If she didn’t stop one of the spears would be through me instead of her.

I stood up, “Taofi!”it was one one of the words I used often.(stop)

“Faaliliu mo tatou.”(translate for us)

“O fea na e sau ai?”

The girl sighed, “Where did you come from?”

“Just outside this forest. Dragonsphire Kingdom.”

“That means you can- ow! Watch the spear!”

“Aua le maua ni manatu.” (don’t get any ideas)

“Na ia fai mai Dragonsphire Malo.”(he said dragonsphire kingdom)

“Mata e mafai? O ia ea o le perenise?”(Is it possible? Is he the prince)

“Are you the prince?”

“What? No, why? I need to go look for who is trying to kill the King and Queen,” I got onto my knees, “Let me go and I’ll put a word in to leave this forest alone. I might even block off the path that goes through it. I am in a hurry, so make your decisions.”

“Ua lamatia le Tupu ma le Masiofo,” the girl translated.(the king and queen are in danger)

“Ave ese i latou.”(take them away)

“Wait. I have to save them! Please let me go. O a’u o Prince Xander!”(i am Prince Xander)

“Ha! You’re the prince? That’s hard to believe.”

“I know more about the prince than you do.”

“Enlighten me.”

“His- MY parents are the only family I have. My sister disappeared years ago.”

“Oh my god…that was so…useless. Like anyone would believe that sappy story. Whatever you make up will not stop them from locking you up. Believe me.”

“I don’t care about myself. I care about Ma Bella.”

“What the he** was that supposed to mean?”

“It’s what I call my horse.”

“You have a horse?! What does she look like? Does she have a foal? Is she with you now?”

She looks around and frowns. It didn’t bother me. I just wanted to be united with her because I promised that I would keep her safe. We arrived at a hidden village and my heart nearly popped out of my chest when I saw Bella. They were trying to calm her down with spears…spears! I ran out of the way of their spears.
