Chapter 1
Icepaw heard the screams of his clanmates, fire was raging down on the clan. Giant flying lizards burned down the many dens of Mountainclan. Suddenly, Icepaw woke up panting and screaming for his clan. After some stares from his clanmates, he heard his name being called for dawn patrol, and got up to meet up with his mentor, Whiteclaw.”
As Icepaw walked down to the first scent marker he thought about his dream, “Could it have been a vision from Starclan? No, that almost never happens, it was probably just a dream.” He finished setting the scent marker. Whiteclaw called his name and told him that it was time to head back.
As the patrol headed back a snake slithered out into the path of Icepaw. He screamed and jumped back. The snake looked right at Icepaw and said “You will be attacked one day soon but beware because they are not what they seem.” The snake then slithered into the woods, and Icepaw shuddered “What was that...”.
Whiteclaw looked at him curiously. “What are you talking about? I didn’t see anything.” Icepaw stared at him in surprise. “You didn’t see the snake that just slithered right in front of you.” Whiteclaw stared at him like he was insane. “Um ok that was strange. I wonder what that was”. At this point they were already back to camp.
As Icepaw thought about what happened to him, he went over to the freshkill pile to take some food. An apprentice named Echopaw bounded up to him her silver fur shining in the sunshine. “Your back from the dawn patrol.”
“Ya.” Icepaw answered distractedly. He still had the image of the prophecy and the snake in his mind.
“Are you alright?” Echopaw asked with concern on her face. She was clearly worried. Icepaw stared at her. But then Whiteclaw called him over to the medicine cat den. He padded over to him.
“So I know you tripped in the forest early and you were limping so I asked Berryface if she could look at it.” Icepaw walked into the den. It was dark in the cave. A small stream ran into a small pool. Berryface was stacking herbs on the back side of the cave. She sat up when she saw Icepaw enter the den. “Hello Icepaw, so Whiteclaw told me that you hurt your paw.” Icepaw nodded, “It’s not that bad, but it stings a bit.” “Are you sure, that looks like it stings a lot!” Echopaw asked
Icepaw shrugged it did hurt, but he wasn’t going to admit it to anyone. “It really doesn’t sting that much. It’s fine really.” He let Berryface see his paw. “It’s alright, but you will have to rest for a day or two. You sprained it so you’ll have to lay in my den for awhile. Starpaw please go get some moss from behind the rotting log.
When Starpaw got back she and Echopaw laid the moss down to make a comfey nest for Icepaw. After they finished the nest Icepaw layed down with a sigh of relief.
