Chapter 1
A Haunted Castle
It was a dare, a simple, easy dare that bought me here. I didn’t know how much the decision would cost me; or how it would affect me forever.
Upon seeing the castle, I immediately knew I was heading for trouble. But I still went ahead; you can blame my obsession for horror and the chills of adrenaline it gave me. The castle was gigantic and in the dark, intimidating and striking. Dry trees had surrounded it with bats flapping around noisily, some mice scuttering around. The house looked abandoned. Terrifying. Magnificent. The windows were cracked and broken, and the soft light the full moon above shined on it made it look even eerier.
I was in a mixture of emotions; terror and excitement were the dominant ones that ran through me, and I felt as though nothing could compare to the feeling. I slowly pushed the towering gates open; it made a creaking noise. I stepped in, only to be greeted by a flock of bats that rushed outside. I strode into the room and looked around to the once-grand, cobwebbed chandelier and portraits that hung plainly. There was barely any light, causing my eyes to take time to adjust.
I walked around the room, feeling as though I had stepped into one of the film sets of a horror movie, just even more real. My eyes suddenly went to a door, one that I hadn’t seen before. Strangely, this door had no cobwebs or dust on its door; in fact, it appeared as though the wood was recently polished.
Curiosity surged within me. A thought came into my mind: This could be dangerous. But it seemed as though something was pulling me in, inviting me to enter the mysterious room.
I went quickly over to it and opened the doors, only to be greeted by a sight that shocked her. The room looked as though it was the only place in the castle which was cleaned and kept perfectly intact. There was light lit by candles across the room. The expensive glass chandelier hung on the ceiling, attractive black designs on the wall, with the king-sized bed with plush peach cushions lent a royal air to it. Admiring the view, I looked down and let out a gasp, my eyes widening with surprise and fear. The floor was painted with the image of skulls, and spilt across it was
Blood
I backed away, stumbling to the door, but I was pushed forward onto the bed by a strong force. I got up, ready to run back to the door but they slammed shut in front of me. I didn’t understand all this; how could the door close without anyone closing it? The winds were light. It couldn’t have been them.
‘There’s a reason you don’t go to forbidden places...’ came a deep, eerie voice of a male.
‘Who’s there? Help me!’ I cried, trying to look across to find the person who was speaking.
‘I am someone who exists, but you shouldn’t know’ the mysterious reply he gave frightened me and all of the adrenaline and bravery I felt was lost.
‘Show your face!’ I tried to speak with as much authority as she could.
The person chuckled. ‘As you say,’ it whispered.
I saw a figure step out of the shadows, coming close to her. She let out a scream when she saw the figure.
Oh, God help me!
