It all started when my son Alec was born. Being an idiot teen I had gotten drunk at a party and had sex. Obviously afterwards I became pregnant. The boy that is his father wanted nothing to do with him so I decided to raise him on my own. I didn't believe in abortion as I believe it cruel to end a life without giving them a chance. In fact there are some that help humans by ending their suffering. When Alec was six months old he was bitten. There are two ways to survive a vampire attack. One is have someone put a stake through the heart. Or two Daylight comes. Luckily for Alec when he was attacked I was able to kill the vampire since I sleep with a stake beside me in case of home invasion. However by the next night it was clear that Alec was a vampire. I found out when he became hungry. At first I thought he just needed milk but when he bit me and I saw his fangs I knew what happened. Luckily baby vampires don't require as much blood as fully grown ones and for five years I was able to keep Alec alive by only letting him bite me. For someone reason I didn't change though. It was theorized that only males become vampires because of the chromosomes thing. But now he's just turned six and it appears that he no longer able to sustain himself on me alone. Now I have to find him other sources.
"Mama I'm hungry" Alec says to me. I knew that he needed blood and if I let him bite me his blood requirement (5.4 liters) would drain me and kill me. However I didn't want to kill people. "Mama! It hurts!" His hunger pains were intensifying and already his body was starting to turn purple. If I didn't do something he could suffocate. "Forgive me o father" I whispered. I ran outside with Alec in my arms. I put him in the car and went to our neighbour's house a kilometer down the road. Knocking on the door our neighbour Alice answered. "I'm so sorry for this" I said to her pulling a gun and firing. Look of confusion was on her face as her mouth formed "why?" Alec bounded behind me drawn by the smell of blood. He drained her dry. "Thanks Mama. Why are you crying?" Then he realized who he had just killed. "MAMA NO! NOT ALICE!" He broke into hysterics. I pulled him to me and comforted him. "I know baby we'll figure something out." After cleaning him up we went home.
The next day my friend Allen came over. "Hey Maddy what's the matter? You seem sad." "It's Alec. My blood is no longer enough for him. Now that he's five he requires a full human's amount of blood for survival. He was hungry last night and I had to kill Alice our neighbour. I can't do this Allen! I can't kill innocent people. But if I let him bite me he'll have to kill me but will have no one to look after him." "There is another way. You could have him kill guilty people." "What do you mean?" "It's how a lot of the good vampires survive. I work with them as a police officer. They go after criminals and the like and use them for food. Luckily for Alec since he's still a child he won't have to do it every night." I thought about it. Then I agreed. "Also now that he is required a full human worth of blood Alec is required to register as a vampire. We can take him to work with me tonight to register."
That night I woke Alec up. "Honey we got to go." "Where Mama?" "We have to go to Allen's work so we can register you as a vampire." "But Mama aren't vampires seen as evil? I thought I had to hide the fact I'm a vampire?" "No honey. See Allen works as a Vampire Police officer who helps the vampires who don't want to be evil." He nodded in understanding. Being a vampire also made Alec smarter than a regular five year old. We arrived at the station just after midnight. "Hello Alec Maddy" said Allen arriving behind us "This way." We entered a building that I assume was the police HQ. We walked down a hallway into a lobby that read "Vampire Registration office". "Hey Allen" a women in a police's officer uniform said. "Who are these two?" "Hi Mary. This is my friend Maddy and her son Alec. Alec's a vampire. We need to register him since he's five years old now." "No problem" Mary said "I'll get the papers and we can get you guys settled." Mary got the papers and put them on the counter. I looked over them and then saw a part that said 'license to terminate the ill'. "What's that?" I asked Allen pointing to the checkbox. "Oh that. I'm not sure if Alec should do that considering his age." "Why? What does that do?" Alec wanted to know. "Well.. License to terminate the ill helps vampires and terminally ill patients who wish to end their suffering. Basically the patient gives the vampire permission to end their life to get their blood requirement. Theyre called vampires of mercy." "Wait. Wouldn't that make him sick though?" "No. Since vampire are technically immortal they cannot get sick at all. Even illnesses that are contagious such as AIDS aren't transferable to vampires." I thought that was a little bit cruel to be honest. "Ok Mom can I do it?" I turned to him shocked. "Honey are you sure? I mean this means you would be around people who are dying and quite plausible children as well." "Mom if I can end somebody's suffering as a vampire and not get affected by the illness I feel like it's my moral duty." I looked at him and realized that he wanted to do it. "Alright honey. If you want to do this I'll allow it."
