Chapter 1
Amber was in her office at work where she was the personal assistant to the CEO of Jones Marketing Firm. Luke has been her boss for three years but they have known each other since they were in kindergarten. She was looking for a job and he hired her because no one else would. She was in a car accident with her best friend in high school. She was on life support. Luke never left her side. Her best friend didn’t make it. No one blamed her for the accident or her friend’s death. They knew it was unavoidable since it was caused by a drunk driver who came at them head on. Her best friend, Jasmine, was driving. They were coming home from the high school football game where they were cheerleaders. They all told her she was lucky to be alive. Jasmine’s parents told her they may have lost Jasmine but they couldn’t handle losing her too. They loved her like a daughter. They helped raise her since her own parents were always working. Her mother was a doctor. Her dad was a lawyer and they would always be out of town a lot. Amber had two younger siblings who were in college. They were twins and she practically raised them. They took care of her when she was in the accident and was confined to the wheelchair. The accident caused damage to her spinal cord and she was told she would never walk again. Luke dropped everything to be there for her. Everyone wondered why they never dated. They said they valued the friendship too much to take the next step. She headed to Luke’s office when she bumped into a woman doing the same thing.
“Watch where you are going!” the woman, Kelly said.
“Sorry,” Amber said.
“You should be!” Kelly said.
“Hey lady, I work here and was taking papers to my boss, you came out of nowhere and got in my way,” Amber said.
“Well I am going to see him so you can wait, don’t bother us,” Kelly said. She went in and closed the door. She heard it lock. Amber shook her head.
“Hey sis,” Langston said. He was Luke’s brother.
“Hey sis,” Logan said. He was Luke and Langston’s younger brother.
“Hey guys,” Amber said.
“What was that?” Logan asked.
“I guess the new flavor of the month,” Amber said.
“He’s hooking up at the office in front of you,” Langston said.
“Nothing new,” Amber said. She headed back to her office. They followed.
“One of these days, he’s going to get tired of them and want someone stable,” Langston said.
“Maybe someone like you,” Logan said.
“Guys, I told you and he’s told you, we are better as friends,” Amber said.
“Is it because of your disability,” Logan said.
“No one wants a girl in a wheelchair who can’t stand up and needs help,” Amber said.
“There is, sis,” Langston said.
“We would want to be with you if we didn’t think of you as a sister,” Logan said.
“Any guy would be lucky to have you as a girlfriend, sis,” Langston said.
“They are right sis,” someone said. They saw her older brother Ben at the door. He was the senior director of marketing at the firm. Langston was COO. Logan was just starting at the firm. He wanted to work his way up before being given a title. He wanted to earn it.
“Hey bro,” Amber said.
“Hey sis, Mindy will meet us at the house okay?” Ben said.
“Dinner?” Amber asked.
“She’s cooking lasagna and will bring it with her,” Ben said.
“When you going to put a ring on her finger?” Amber asked.
“It’s in the works sis,” Ben said.
“I hope so,” Amber said. They heard yelling from Luke’s office. They heard the door slam open and saw the blonde come storming out. Langston and Logan went to see their brother. Amber shook her head and went back to work.
