It was okay until

For one thing, Kathy have heard so much about the lost home academy, however, up until now there has been no evidence to confirm these claims and most importantly, there was no grounds to prove the institution even existed, hence the shock as She read the invitation addressed to Katherine Habbit from “the lost home academy “.she had initially taught it was a spam message or probably a prank from one of her frenemies, well, that was until she tore open the envelope and extracting the large piece of paper, she let herself absorb the content of the material. As she read through her hands reflexively tightened over the white piece, her eyes contracting to take the form of saucers as the tempo of her heart increased rapidly. She however lost all grip when her eye extended to the signified stamp sitting at the lower corner of the material. It was clearly an invitation but why??……..

Clearly it has nothing to do with the fact that She was an orphan who had just graduated college at 19 or that She worked part time at a diner in campus and lived in a large mansion with an account left to her by father who by the was a professor of law before his death or that her social life was almost nonexistent ….or maybe because She……. Seriously there’s really nothing important…..

Kathy woke up with a start the large mahogany clock announcing She had only a little time to get to go work, She hurried through a chain of activities, luckily the next 5minutes saw her marching towards my blue Mercedes V-550, she was old but boy did she do a good job at getting her places, after a couple hitches, she roared to life leading us off to the campus….

Night shifts late Eden’s place was busy but not as busy as it was at midday thus it all seemed usual especially with pa Eden behind the counter, the old man couldn’t take a break dressed in his Jumper shorts and a sea green T shirt, the older guy waved with a contagious Smile enthusiastic as ever, “Hey Kathy, how’s it going, you are right on time”. Conversations with Pa Eden had always been easy and light, hence her chatting with the old guy through her shift, he never seemed to get tired.

The booths were overflowing and almost immediately reoccupied whenever a group left. The diner was mostly usually filled with students studying or gossiping in groups or pairs, it was however difficult to locate a student singly occupied. As the evening progressed, the occupants of the diner slowly but surely exited the building.. it wasn’t until around 2AM, the dinner seemed almost empty permitting Kathy to seek a desired nap.

A steady tap forced Kathy up, the followed the persistent fingers resting on her arm to pa Eden’s smiling face”Oh Kathy, you must be exhausted, come on go have a nap, I will keep charge around here”

Kathy wanted to protest but she felt too weak to speak,”God bless your soul Pa Eden”. She taught instead, as she dragged her feet towards the inner rooms. She was sure she had drifted far away even before she located the employee’s room… however, somewhere in her subconscious, she could see the invitation from the lost home academy. But, she would not let even that steal her desired sleep, yet again she still had four days before her expected reply.

“Kathy still here?” Pa Eden asked. “Morning Pa Eden “ Kathy the replied as she focused her vision on the chest clock sitting at topmost right corner of the dinner . The clock read 6:10 Am, well she was supposed to be off duty ten minutes ago. She sauntered into the employee’s room to grab her possessions, on her return she found Jace speaking to Pa Eden. On reaching them, Jace spun towards her. Encircling her in one of his hugs. “Hello, Kathy” he spoke into her hair.

“morning Jace” she replied elbowing him in his stomach.

“Ouch miss me that much” Jace said wearing a mock surprised face as he released her.

Jace to her was like family, the type that that was fun and goofy but is only available during the holidays. With his build and height which made her look like a toddler and his charming face and ok character, you could hardly tell he was a science nerd…. the one who was supposed to be highly introverted like was.

As she drove home, Kathy let herself enjoy the damp morning air of Nevero and it’s quiet and serene moments, with the soothing hum of her transportation. This serene moments however did not extend more than a few minutes. it was simply destroyed by a disturbed feeling as she rounded the last bend to her large dwelling. Parking her car in it’s usual spot, she made her way to the bold terrace. Scanning the area, all looked in order but she could not displace her gut feeling. She dipped her left arm into her grey spotted purse, extracting her keys, she inserted into the keyhole. She twisted twice, the double click indicating the being unlocked. Kathy stepped into her threshold. No sooner had she stepped in, her suspicions were confirmed . She felt blood drain off her face, there on the large chest, sited atop the first letter was a piece of envelope. Kathy braced herself, taking slow and steady steps. She reached the chest, extending her fingers she hesitated, then picked the envelope. Pulling its content off it and willing her mind to focus on the details. She froze.
