Summary

Some dreams we have are nothing more than dreams Unnatural and full of contradictions But others of our most romantic schemes Are something more than fictions Through an irresistible brush with the supernatural, a lonely young girl enters into an incredible odyssey—a mystical double life—not merely the fantasy or escape she expects, but a strange, wonderful and enchanting means by which she fulfills her most heartfelt desires for romance, friendship and popularity. She gradually learns this bounty comes at a price. The creature staging these incidental exoduses into the unknown appears to know more about her than she knows about herself. In time, far darker desires propel her into a more dangerous world where psychedelic orgies of violence and eroticism are the norm. Yet her lurid adventure is merely a diversion, the catalyst to a far more terrifying fate that imperils not only herself, but all of mankind.

Epigram

Dreams in their development have breath,

And tears, and tortures, and the touch of joy,

They have a weight upon our waking thoughts,

They take a weight from off our waking toils,

They do divide our being.

—Lord Byron

.

Some dreams we have are nothing more than dreams,

Unnatural and full of contradictions;

Yet others of our most romantic schemes

Are something more than fictions.

—Thomas Hood
