Chapter 1
The Beginning
In a place people believe is filled with alligators, crazy Cajuns, and amazing food; I believe if you look hard enough you can notice things that are unnatural but since we are humans we get busy and brush off things we saw. We know that no one would believe us because it just seems impossible to see such things and that what we saw was things that only existed in fairytales and dreams. The truth about most of the people around you is the fact that they can’t see the things that the very few special children can see and only when these kids try to tell people what they saw, they get told that they are either lying or that they were going crazy. The children they thought were going crazy they made sure to send away to a psychological institute that they were told would stop the kids from seeing these things, but on the contrary it wasn’t a psychological institute like the people thought it was a institute that helped the kids understand what they saw and learn why they saw what they saw. What many people don’t know is that back in the early 1700s some of the settlers that lived in Sicily Island had been coming close to perishing in the long cold winter that they had made a deal with a witch that had been traveling through the parish so that they would survive the cruel winter. Unfortunately what the settlers didn’t know was that their wish came with a cost and the cost they had been gifted with was the fact that they weren’t blind to the creatures that were once blind to them. Horrified with the creatures they now were able to see such as vampires, werewolves, demons, fey or more commonly know in fairytales as fairies, and warlocks which made them wonder how they didn’t get put into the salem witch trials when warlocks could do spells as well as witches could, but despite how scared they were anytime they tried to tell anyone about the weird and supernatural things they saw no one would believe them and that is why many people thought that they had made a deal with the devil in order to see these things that didn’t exist. After the witch trials of the town ended with most of the people that were able to see the supernatural beings but those that did survive and weren’t thought to have made a deal with the devil kept quiet about what they were seeing and lived a quiet life having kids before growing old until old age takes them back to the weeds.
Chapter 1 : The Institute
It has been almost 300 years since the kids were sent away to the Institute that the locals thought would help them from spreading their madness to the rest of the town. To normal people it looks deserted, but only those that are the descendants of those who didn’t get caught can see that inside of it there are still inhabitants that live in it. The only inhabitant that didn’t want to see what he saw was named Adrien Andres, a boy who only ever wanted to be normal like those who never saw the supernatural beasts. The beasts that he had been taught to fight against so that he could protect those who couldn’t see the beasts. If he could be given a choice to stop fighting and protecting the normal humans he would in a heart beat in order to be like them because he hated having nothing in his life that he loved. His whole day was practically always planned out before it was supposed to happen a week later, but if he could change it he would it felt stupid to always know what was going to be done a week before it happens and to never have friends or family that loved him. “Hey Adrien, wanna come on night patrol with me and Kresha?” Adrien looks up to find two fellow inhabitants of the institute Veronica, who asked him to come on night patrol, and Kresha, who is the most timid person in the whole institute, both armed all the way up to their teeth practically with weapons ready for night patrol. Adrien looks around his room trying to find a good excuse that he could use, but he couldn’t find one hidden amongst his poetry books and machinery that laid on his chaotic desk. Kresha upon seeing that he was trying to find a loophole outta having to go she quietly said, “Madam Iris said you have to go since you didn’t go last night with Bob, which led to him having to deal with two fights between the wolves and the vampires.” After Kresha stops talking she immediately looks down because she is scared that when people look her in the eyes they are judging her. Adrien lets out an annoyed sigh before pushing both girls out of his room to get into his gear, “This is stupid. Why do I have to go patrol with a bunch of girls? I wish I could get away from this even if it was only for an hour.” After dressing in some navy blue leather jeans, a black t-shirt with a navy blue leather jacket, and some torn up combat boots; he finally opens his door only to have a bunch of weapons which included: a dagger, a quiver of arrows and his bow that he made from elm wood. “You guys couldn’t wait two seconds for me to get my own weapons?” Adrien said in an annoyed tone which only made Veronica snap at him, “ No, because as a male you take too long whenever it comes to doing anything.” After she said that to him she turned to Kresha, “Hey, I’m sorry for snapping like that. I know how you hate when I snap at people. I am so sorry, please forgive me.” Kresha looks up to Veronica’s eyes and sees her best friend giving her puppy dog eyes, “ Hey it’s fine I know that you just get mad when the guys in this place get annoyed at you.” Adrien lets out an annoyed sigh before asking, “Can we go now? I want to be back before midnight.” Veronica laughs when she sees how grumpy he is before walking away towards the doors of the institute in order to get away from the place that is like a sanctuary to them.“Can we go patrol around the Sicily Island Swamp? If I’m being forced to patrol with you guys then the least you could do is let me patrol around the swamp.” Adrien asks the duo of females before complaining about having to patrol in the first place. “It’s not our fault that you have been skipping out on your patrols so you just have to suck it up and deal with the consequences that come with you being a moody child.” Veronica replies back to his question with even more hostility than she had at the institute. “First off I am seventeen which means that I’m about to be an adult. You, on the other hand, act exactly like a child because of how childish of a person you are. You know you are a child because if you were mature you would admit that you are cheating on Boudreaux with Kresha’s boyfriend Broussard even though you know that they are best friends but somehow you found a way to keep them from telling the other that they are dating you. Are you happy? I’m finally being mature and telling you people the truth.” Adrien yells before storming off towards the swamp because he wants nothing more to do with the fight that might go on between the two girls. “I never should have came on this stupid patrol its not like anything happens anyway.” Adrien mutters to himself sitting down on the rocks by the edge of the swamp before starting to meditate in order to try and calm himself down before he has to go back to the institute. “Hey Adrien.” Without opening his eyes, Adrien feels himself smirk before answering to one of his oldest friends with a bit of sarcasm, “Hey Christopher, don’t all mutts have to have an alpha with them away from the den?” Christopher lets out a fake laugh before letting out a snarl, “Careful Adrien, you just might make me attack you like the deranged wolf I am.” Adrien finally opens his eyes in order to look up at Christopher, whose eyes had changed to a bright yellow color that indicated that his animalistic side was close to coming out. “Anyway Adrien, why are you out here? You never come out here unless you need to get away from the mean old hag that runs the institute that you never quit complaining about.” Adrien shakes his head lightly and goes to tell him what happened with Veronica, Kresha, and the awful things that he had just exposed about Veronica. “You really messed up Ryan.” Adrien let out a loud laugh at Christopher’s old nickname for Adrien
