The Alpha and Luna Series: His Human Luna

I had just left my final class of the afternoon. I hate this time of year because it gets dark out early. It’s only 6:30 pm but it's pitch dark out. I'm walking to my blue Mazda3 when I hear what are like footsteps coming towards me. I decide to not turn around but try to run faster to my car. I'm not usually this nervous about getting out of class in the dark but since my ex has been leaving crazy messages on my phone, I have become somewhat nervous. I quickly jump in my car and start it. I dial my sister, Julia. Julia answers after the first ring.

“What’s up Jade? How was class?” I'm breathing hard trying to get my anxiety under control. “Jade did something happen, calm down and talk.” After a few minutes of catching my breath, I finally calm down. “Sorry, Julia it’s just that I felt like someone was following me.”

Julia scoffs, “Why don’t you put a restraining order out on Owen?” Owen is my ex-boyfriend who has become a stalker. I broke it off with him months ago. We only dated for two months but he thinks we should spend the rest of our lives together. I realized too late that he was an abusive psychopath and finally dumped him. He did not take it well and has been threatening me since then.

“You and I both know that won’t stop Owen. His family has a lot of money, and they would just pay off the cops who try to help me.” I try to get my sister to understand how powerful Owen is. I’m hoping he will find someone else soon and move on. I tell Julia I’m almost home and will see her in about five minutes. I hang up the phone and see the apartment in my sight. I park in my spot and then get out of the car to head inside. The next thing I see is complete darkness.

I wake up in a bed that looks similar, but I know it isn’t mine. My eyes shot open and I quickly sit up. Why am I in Owen’s bed? All I remember is getting out of my car, something going over my mouth, then darkness. I look down and see that I’m in a flimsy nightgown with no undergarments. I really hope that Owen didn’t take advantage of me while I was knocked out. I’m scared and hope that I can talk him into letting me go.

I see my shoes at the room closet door and I realize that I’m not that dizzy anymore so I try to stand. Once I get my footing I put on my shoes and look around to see do I see my phone or anything else. The room is empty of my items except for my shoes. I’m so busy thinking I don’t see when Owen walks inside his room. He sees me looking around with my shoes on, comes towards me, then slaps me so hard that I fall to the ground. I crawl backward away from him with my hand on my face.

“Didn’t I tell you we would be together Jade? See what happens when you are a bad girl. You make me do crazy things like slapping you,” he says with fire in his eyes. I’m stunned at how crazy he is to try to make this my fault. “Owen can we please discuss this like adults. I’m sure my sister is looking for me,” I try to tell him. He says something that makes me even more scared.

“Your sister is not worried. I already let her know with your phone that you are safe.” I’m trying to figure out what he told her because she knows that he is crazy, and I want nothing to do with him. He continues, “Don’t worry she doesn’t know you are with me. She just thinks you are staying with a friend.” I feel relieved because I know my sister won’t believe that. She knows that she is my only friend. I hope she is looking for me.

He comes closer to me then picks me up and throws me on the bed. I’m afraid of how aggressive he is with me. He climbs on top of me and I kick him in the balls, trying to run away. He grabs me by the hair and yanks me back towards the bed, breaking the lamp by the bed. I land on the bed and reach out for a piece of the broken lamp. He climbs back on top of me and tries to kiss me. I take the broken piece and cut his face from the top of his head to his chin. It’s a deep cut and blood is leaking everywhere. I used this distraction to jump off the bed and run out the door. I make it outside and run until I can’t run anymore. I stop to take a breather and then look around to make sure he didn’t follow me. I continue to run until I get to my apartment.

Once I step inside, I see my sister in tears running toward me. “What happened, what did he do? She is holding onto me tightly crying. Through her tears she says, “I called the cops, but they said since you text you were with a friend then they wouldn’t look for you until after 24 hours.” She finally lets me go and stops crying. She is now finally looking at me and I can tell she is freaked out about the blood.

“It’s not my blood Julia, it’s his. I cut him to get away. We must leave here for good. He won’t stop until he has me or I am dead.” I rush to the bathroom to take a quick shower, while washing my face I feel the pain on my lips from the slap. I try to not think of it then pack my bag and tell Julia to pack hers. We pack everything we can and jump into my car to get away. I grab her phone and toss it out the window. I don’t want him to find us ever. I drive until I’m tired and we are hours away from him.
