Chapter 1
She put me down on an old wooden table next to a beat up box of checkers and a green haired barbe doll. The morning dragged on as people from across town passed me by and picked me up, quickly putting me down, once they saw the price tag. Just as I thought that I would never leave this dreadful place, a peculiar object loomed towards me.
The creature had an odd metal contraption and was hunched over, wearing big glass goggles and a furry hat. She reached her spindly fingers towards me, knowing her grip would be cold and stiff. She quickly snatched me up and put me in her purse, hobbling away. No one noticed, I mean, who cares about me, a sad little bumble bee toy?
The woman flung her purse into the backseat, and soon we flew forwards. Then, we came to a screeching halt. I looked out the window and saw a house with cracked cement steps, a rusty rail, and rotting green shutters. The woman grabbed her purse with me in it, but I could feel us approaching somewhere else, not the front door. Instead, the lady threw open a set of doors that were next to the coiled hose, walking down the steps leading to a dark and foul smelling basement. She put her purse down on a crate, and opened it. For the first time since being outside, and sneakily peaking out of the hole by the corner of the fabric, I could faintly see a glimpse of light. Where’s that coming from? She yanked me out and set me on a metal table, a bright light shining in my eyes. Then, she took out her tools.
She looked at me through this glass circle that made her eye huge, but I guess it helped her see my stitches better. After that, she began to wash me and then fixed my broken wing. I remember when Ellie was playing with me on the swing set and she pushed me too far, and I went flying down, cracking my wing. Ellie picked me up and very calmly, so gently, she carried me to her room. She then took her doctors kit and gave me a check up, putting a band aid on my wing.
I lay as still as I could, but the woman had been working on me for hours. It’s not like I was in that bad of shape, well, one of my antenas was gone from when Ellie tried to give me a haircut. Finally, the woman finished. Then, a surprising thing happened, she put me in a box, and carried me to the mailbox!
What do I do now? I wondered. I knew that I couldn’t get out of the box, let alone the mailbox. Just as I was wondering what to do, a rumbling sound came right beside the me and picked the box up. The person dropped the box into a heap of other boxes, and landed with a thud on top of them all.
The person picked me up and carried me through a set of doors. Inside the building, I could hear a sound of buzzing, ringing and talking. The man carried me up a flight of stairs, and opened up another door and put the box on a table. Soon, a lady came in and rolled the box around. I didn’t know what she was doing, but I sure didn’t like it. Afterwards, she carried me down the hallway and set me under a tree.
A couple of days later, the same woman carried me down the hall. I heard knocking and the opening of a door.
“Taymyria? You have a present!”.
“A present! Oh boy!” the girl exclaimed.
After ripping and tearing the wrapping off, Taymyria finally opened the box. I was face to face with a little bald girl dressed in a white gown. All around her were machines and sounds. She smiled at me, and if I could smile, I would’ve smiled, too.
