Just a Normal Day, Right?
It all started as just a normal school day, everyone at the school was doing their work and were kinda peaceful for once. We were just taking a test which I had dreaded for the whole week when suddenly, the lights turned off, even the emergency lights. It was especially weird since it was bright daylight outside, no storm, no wind, no nothing.
Whispers started around the room, “What if it was a bird?” “Maybe a criminal of some sort?” “It’s the Boogeyman!” A few people said. Then as I whispered to the person next to me, I saw my teacher put a gas mask on. A few seconds later I heard a quiet wooshing noise in the vents and a weird smell in my nose, “Guys somethings coming through the ven-” I didn't even get to finish before everything went fully dark.
I woke up on a bus, I thought it had all been a dream and I was still riding the bus to school that morning. Then I saw my classmates none of whom rode my bus. Most of the kids were still asleep, the others were silent, and I could see the panic in their eyes. I noticed towards the front of the bus there was some elementary kids from the school next to ours. I noticed the kid next to me was my best friend Kyle, he was still asleep. I shook him just to see if it would wake him up.
After a second of shaking him, I hear, “What?”
“I think we’ve been kidnaped.” I whisper to him, “No duh.” “Wait how did you know I thought you just woke up.”
“Mary, look around we are no were near the school and the sun is already going down, I woke up a while ago there’s nothing we can do.” I didn’t notice the sun was already going down and that we were in the middle of a large open area.
After a few seconds of thought, I thought of a simple plan to try, “We can try and fight back!” I say a bit louder than I meant. Kyle shoves a hand on my mouth.
“A kid has already been tossed out of our bus wail moving because he tried to fight, we just have to wait for the authorities.” I nod and sit back panicking a little bit. I feel a hand on my shoulder and look up at Kyle, “It’s going to be ok.” He whispers before leaning against the widow and falling asleep again. Eventually, I dozed off as well, until we all woke up to a loud bang. There were a few screams and Kyle grabbed me into a bear hug.
“Time to get moving everyone find your homeroom teacher they will take you from there.” The bus driver said, who was my old math teacher from sixth grade, Mrs. Lemons, I always hated her. I saw that on the top of the roof there was a hole. I guess the noise was a gunshot so it would wake us all up. Kyle let go of me and we walked to our teacher. It was kind of weird two schools of kids, and not a single noise except for the leaves and twigs beneath us. A few kids tried to run and were shot instantly, for each shot Kyle jumped to protect me from a bullet as if it were coming this way. He was always protective of me, he saved me from countless bullies. I smiled at him as a thank you, I didn’t what to risk talking. We lined up with my other classmates and started walking into the forest. We walked well into the night, the only light from the lanterns the teacher had, and the few gunshots from kids still trying to run.
After what felt like forever, we walked up to a huge building, it looked like an abandoned school. We walked in and the teachers led us to a room, the weirdest thing was that it was exactly like the school we had just left but that there were no lights, and plants were growing on the walls and floor. This place had been abandoned for a long time.
We all sat on the floor of one room and our teacher stood in the front of the room, “You are not allowed out of the room except for the bathroom or special occasions, we will make sure you only go the bathroom and that’s it. You may talk but not loud.” She then walked outside of the room taking a gun with her. Kids in the room started to cry or comfort the others, I tried to look brave for the little kid that was in the room with us, but I couldn’t. I started to cry, and Kyle hugged me. I could tell he was crying a bit as well even though he was trying to hide it. I was afraid and knew this is how I was going to die.
The next morning, we woke up and were allowed outside for like 3 minutes, but it was nice to see outside. The thing that got me the most was I didn’t know how long we drove here I mean it felt like one day but who knows how long we were passed out on the bus. They took all our phones and watches while we were asleep. They led us back inside and my classmate Luke, who said he could tell the time from the sun, said it was about lunchtime, so we expected to walk to a cafeteria instead we just walked back to our classroom. We were all confused and hungry, we hadn’t eaten since the previous morning before school.
This went on for two days. We haven't eaten or had any food, the water in the bathroom was unable to be drinken safely. Then on the third day, our teacher took us to what I think was an auditorium of some sort. We all sat down quietly and waited for something to happen.
A few minutes later our principal walked in, “Hello students, we have brought you here because we are going to feed you, and yes it's better than normal cafeteria food. But! There is a risk if you eat one plate will be poisoned and the student will be poisoned and slowly pass away after that another kid will be poisoned, it will go on and on until one person is left. We will feed you normally until the person dies, now go eat.” We all sat there in silence. None of us wanted to die but we would die anyway if we didn't eat or drink the water they would give us. All we could do is go eat and pray it won’t be us. We stumbled into another room, this room looked nice, with no plants on the walls or anything just a normal room. Even though it was just a plain room we all gasped when we opened the door, it had felt like years since we saw a normal room. I sat down next to Kyle; we had stuck together since this all started. Once the food was placed in front of us, we all started eating like animals, it tasted amazing, it was just some normal pizza, but it was the greatest meal ever. I wondered why they were just killing us off one by one what are they trying to do? Why was it going to be slowly?
