CELESTIAL FEAR WITHIN ME

And while they say that the stars we see

are the remnants of what used to be,

my fingers and toes begin to numb,

nerves flutter like a celestial hum,

then a familiar ring in my ears

as I gravitate toward my fears.

Oh, how tiny and fragile we are

in the vast ripple of light and dark.

If all that's in our sight is the past

then what and who—now—exists with us?

If the place we call home expires

will we last or succumb to fire?

Too young to go beyond what we know,

too late to salvage what we borrowed.

Witness the traces of the ancient,

there lie the answers for the present.

Listen to what a man once told me,

"A world forms from what you imagine."
