Prologue
"It's not the dark that is scary but the darkness within."
It's dark, probably midnight. Despite being the night of a full moon, the moonlight hardly reached the ground due to the thick clouds and dense trees.
In the center of the woodland sits a lake.
Two men are pacing nearby. Their flashlights were skimming the area, desperately searching for something or someone!
"Are you sure?" One of them asked.
"Yeah, I mean, look at the footprints; she definitely jumped," another one said.
"Hmm--- It looks like that; besides, we did hear the splash, though! But why would she do that?" The first one let out, frustrated and suspicious.
"What was that?" The third one joined them.
"Uhh--- seems like she jumped."
"What?" The third one asked, still not sure.
"Here, look at the footprints. Maybe she wasn't meant to, or she must have been startled, or maybe she slipped down accidentally!" He dragged, unsure.
The first guy butted in. "When we reached here, the lake water was disturbed."
"Fuck!" Another one cursed.
One of them let out an annoying sigh before composing himself. ''Well, she did spare us from killing her,'' he paused, continuing. "They say this swamp bed has a dangerous clay that sucks anything in. It's impossible to free themselves. No animal had ever made it out of this lake." He finished with a sigh.
"And I heard there were alligators in this swamp too. Even if she manages to swim, they will tear her apart." The third one let out coldly.
"What a waste." One of them clicked his tongue, annoyed. "I had different plans for her." One of them was blabbering, muttering curses.
The first one cut him off, "You are disgusting, you know that? She was just a kid, you psycho." The second guy snarled at him, drawing his phone out to call someone.
As the other man rolled his eyes, he spoke to someone on the phone, explaining the situation.
"BUT that's impossible! - There is no way she could be alive. No one ever made it out—"
"Okay … we will do it." He cut the call, cursing inaudibly. "He said she isn't so foolish as to jump into this lake. He said she's like her father, far too smart for her age. She will get out, even if there is only a slim possibility.
We need to search the forest. Come on, spread out, circle the lake. We cannot take risks now. The job was to finish the WHITES, and she is the last of them.
We had to be sure that she was gone—gone for good."
